I'm not sure how you'd go about it. No water in the nether, lava would burn drops, so the only way you could move them would be some incredibly enormous and lag-inducing piston system.

ive hardly heard of zombie pigmen farms, But ghasts?!?!
How big is a ghast in blocks?
Then translate that into how big a ghast "storage" area would be?
Maybe 75x75? In the nether? Floating above lava?

It wouldnt be great for all the work, only to have it work when your in the nether (not many people are in the nether alot) aswell only to get gunpowder.
You get get it more successfull if you made a simple drowner trap in the overworld.

Never heard of it either. It would be very interesting if someone made one that works properly. Can they drown?

If I were to go about this, I'd make a room with hundreds of floating portals near the cieling. Where their tentacles would hang, I'd place cactus. And under that, a very large pool of water to collect.

But the spawn rate is so miserable, no matter how good the trap is designed, the yield wouldn't be worth it.

I imagine numerous arrow dispensers and a glass pin. :\

But, yeah... a ghast farm is a new concept.

Never heard of one :3 I don't even know how you would go about making one.

Overworld possibly could work though their spawn rate there is crazy low.

Nether they just have a ton of potential spawning sites. Maybe a passive one using cactus pillars would work. Ghasts would be bound to wander next to them eventually.

Totally impractical. They only drop 1-2 gunpowder, which is not worth it when you could just use creepers.

No point. Creepers are better.

But anyway, would be rather difficult.
Over 90 % of the human population is stupid (in my honest opinion). Don't expect too much from them when you post something that actually involves thought.

That much is obvious, bud. The interest in such a farm is the plausibility of one and the engineering. Some people just like to see if they can get a functioning one at all, even if the yield is like two drops every 24 rl hrs.

I agree. You would do this because its an interesting problem, not because its meant to be practical.

you dont have to do it in the nether, because ghasts spawn near portals.
And ghasts in the overworld always float up, so you could do something whit that, but a drowning trap wouldnt be possible, because nothing is suited to hold the water up.

hm, if they indeed spawn near portals, than one could perhaps just build a load of portals wit 2x2 tunnels above, holding water up by signs/ladders in the bottom.
They would float up and drown?

Thana again that must be a horribly low spawnrate, I never had one spawn near any of my portals and they got plenty of space around em.

nevermind, they are 4x4 arent they.
Wel, perhaps signs buildt on signs somehow below.

Jeb said they don't actually spawn near portals.

Nether monsters can no longer spawn near portals.

I made a thing where ghasts would spawn in a cobblestone room, and I'd have a hole where I shot my bow to kill them

They don't spawn in the overworld anymore? Since when was this? That's too bad.

I guess you'd have to do it in the Nether then. But the engineering of one would be so limited that we'd be hard pressed to call the resulting grinder a...grinder.

You'd have to limit the area that ghasts could spawn around you to one area, and then you'd have to use cactus. But there would be no way to collect. Unless someone made a highly complicated godlike piston device, but... That's too bad.

Jeb has said that there is code for ghasts to spawn in the overworld but it has never been turned on
