Mods I Use
Buildcraft - Use this mod a lot, love the quarry and filler block as well as the pipes
IndustrialCraft - just installed and dont know how to use
Single Player Commands - Couldn't live without it, key bindings ftw.
TooManyItems - may be cheap, but since there is no point to this game I don't feel bad the least bit for cheating.
Integrated Redstone - awesome mod that harbors my laziness. The timer block, it provides instant redstone pulse and you can even set the interval!
ExtraBuildcraftPipes - LOVE this mod, insertion pipe aids in overflow protection. Buildcraft user? This is a must have!
ZanMiniMap - completely changed the way I navigate Minecraft.
UltimateFist - breaks any block, instantly. AWESOME
These mods are all EXCELLENT, the authors definitely get
...Anyways...
Block Ideas
1. Day/Night: If you are familiar with Single Player Commands (SPC) you know that you can bind a keystroke to a command such as "time day" or "fly". This is EXTREMELY useful, but I would love to see a block that can change day and night with a lever. Kind of like SPC does with the "time day" command.
2. TrapBlock: I have seen recently there is a mod called Trapcraft (link) that adds a couple blocks to aid in trap making. I dont know about you and what you like to do in Minecraft but what I do is build automated machines and farms along with elaborate pipe systems, storage facilities, factories, and fortresses with "automatic" being the only goal. I LOVE making traps, even though I use mob spawners (along with the Spawner GUI). I have made drowning traps, cactus traps, falling traps, lava traps, you name it. But its not enough to make the trap, I want to collect the maximum amount of loot as well. It seems all traps have there ups and downs but none seem to be perfect. Lately I have been experimenting with a cactus trap that uses water flow from an above mob spawner field. The cows, sheep, pig, and chickens flow with the current into the cactus jumping until they die. The problem is, if the loot touches the cactus it will be destroyed. In attempts to gather the loot before it is able to make contact, I use powered obsidian pipe (from Buildcraft mod) to suck it up before it to too is pulled into the cactus. I use a Death Cactus mod (unknown author or whereabouts)as well, to make mobs die instantly when contact with the cactus is made. I would like to see a trap block that has the effects of the Death Cactus or even a regular cactus, but can be placed next to other blocks, and does not destroy any loot in the mass slaughter and mayhem.
3. MobSpawner Toggle: Not sure whether this would be a separate mob spawner block or if it would be simply modding how the existing mob spawner works. A common annoyance I run into with the mob spawner block is not being able to turn it on/off. Its either a constant flow or nothing. I would like to be able to redstone power the spawner so I can turn it on/off easily.
4. Trip Wire: Motion activated redstone, I cant even say how awesome it would be to walk into a room and have your lights turn on automatically. Walking by makes it active, walking by an already active trip wire block deactivates it. Walk in and lights on, walk out and light off. Like a boss.
Mobs
I really think it would be cool to have all the animal mobs already in Minecraft along with Biome related mobs. For example...
Bear
Deer
Birds
Whale
Mod Addon / Changes
1. This idea would have a lot better chance getting implemented if I posted it on the TooManyItems (TMI) thread, however I will share it here anyways. TooManyItems is great and really makes building large projects a ton easier. When you click on an item in the TMI menu, it puts a full stack of that item in your inventory which is great. I would love to see a feature added that made TMI skip adding to your inventory and added it to a chest, crafting table, or furnace when the appropriate GUI screen is opened. Possibly make use of right clicking an item in the TMI menu by making right click skip the inventory when GUI is open but do nothing when it is not. Also, where did the "make unlimited" stack feature from past versions go?
2. The wolves are pretty criticized but I don't mind them and kind of like their company as well as help fighting off the zombies. But you can't do anything with them besides make them sit. Nandonalt made Wolves Extended (link) which adds some options such as naming, breeding, clothing, and even riding. Seems like you should be able to give your faithful companion a treat, pet on head, or play fetch with a stick (or bone).
3. The weather in Minecraft gives it more of a real feel, and I thought it was cool for about 10 minutes. Now I am just sick of it and I find myself using the "weather rain" SPC command quite a bit. Originally I thought of this as a block with a on/off lever but that seems like it would be pretty hard and maybe not the best way of doing it. I am not familiar with Java or limitations as to modding Minecraft, but I would like to see a menu option from the in game settings that lets you toggle weather on/off. Completely on and off, not just masking it. I am tired of having to turn off rain and shovel snow. Why not use a different world you say? I am using a 1000x1000 Flatgrass world (download link) that is surrounded by bedrock walls. Outside the walls the terrain is normal, but within it is all flat and contains nothing but dirt all the way down to the bedrock. I find it VERY useful when building because I don't have to excavate entire mountains.
Miscellaneous
All-In-One Block ID Edit: I would really like to see a better system of managing block ids. ID Resolver does a good job and I like it, but have you ever wanted to just see a list of all of your Block/Item IDs so you would which ones you had left to use? It would be AWESOME to have a text file generated at the start of Minecraft that would display every ID in the game (including all mods). With this text file, the ability to edit ANY of the IDs on that list and save it. All-In-One Block ID editing would make adding mods and troubleshooting ID conflicts.
Thats all I have for now, will edit any changes in later as I change my ideas or think up more. Thanks for reading the novel
