A no biomes mod was released here not long ago, for 1.5. I liked it, but it suffered one issue -- the noise generator in later versions of minecraft is different, meaning that while most of the generation was the same as 1.1.2, the actual noise was not, making everything different. This fixes that, by adding in the original noise maker. Since features like tall grass are not in this, I restored some alpha functionality. In particular, you can now use the hoe on grass to get seeds again. Weather effects no longer happen, either.
The biggest feature is snowy worlds -- the game will now create snowy worlds in the same fashion as before. The key should be the same, so assuming that MC doesn't strip it when converting alpha levels, any pre 1.2.0 level with snow should still have it, when loaded with this mod
Screenshots:
this is a view of the very first level I played with alpha. I still have it. I still play it. Known bugs:
I'm expecting bugs on this one (I'm not exactly the best programmer ever ), so please report them. I know of one, but it only happens under specific circumstances:
It snows in the nether -- this can only be seen by stripping away the bedrock with a mod or editor.
Squid spawning in springs, taking up passive mob slots -- fixed in r2
Updates:
r2 is released, adding sandstone and lazis as per recent beta levels, and the squid bugfix is now added into the main archive, meaning that passive mobs should spawn much more often.
r3 is here, adding configuration support and a bunch of new features!
Leaves fix now part of the main distribution, and it's been made better all around.
Configurable options: You can now configure the following
Sunrise/Sunset Effect
Shearing Sheep with bare knuckles!
Generation of Lapis and Sandstone
Re-add the version string!
Spawning of beta mobs (squid, colored sheep, wolves still don't spawn at all...)
And some classic texturing options! (Thanks for the suggestions, Terra_ff6!)
NBX Lite:
This strips all the gameplay features in favor of compatibility! Created by Exalm.
Please check Exalm's thread for the latest version.
Leaves fix:
Are your trees on a pre-beta level showing the wrong color? This will fix them. Install after the main mod. Do not install with r3. http://www.mediafire...k6zjhip88u6wspr

Unless the generator base changes around in ways I couldn't compensate for, yeah, I'll probably continue updating this after 1.8 comes out. Eventually, I also want to make it able to emulate Infdev levels from about march 18th, when minecraft first got the 3D level generator, mostly because it looks completely awesome.
Cool i remeber those days i started during indev i still have the level i play it some times i use to use a alpha texture pack to make it look classic if you want the link ill give it to you
I'm not sure what to say then. I have not touched monster spawning at all, and the world still has a valid biome for spawning (I pretty much just say, whenever the game tries to poll a biome, that we're in a Shrubland). Mob spawning works perfectly fine for me in both my MCP-debug and standard minecraft jars.
If anyone else is getting issues I guess I can toss some debugging into the jar to try to track down this issue.
It should work with Mo' Creatures as none of the spawns appear to be biome-dependent according to the forum thread about it. I'll consider a server version, but rather than force modded clients, I may make it so that snowy levels don't occur (as that would require a client mod to work properly), unless you people are really attached to them.
