I'm using mac, and I get this sometimes, not always. Something to do with routers and ISP? cause on my friends house works so fine.

EDIT: I'm using fresh minecraft and dont work

This thread is useless.
Please don't post in here.

connection reset is a fact of life when you get disconnected abruptly.

As such it is merely a symptom, and provides ZERO information about what kind of problem you may actually be experiencing.

But, Mojang, do please tell us what this symptom means, and how can we help give information so that they can actually help us!!

I too have this same problem but i can't even join a server any more since i have updated Minecraft. when i try and connect to any server it just says Internal exception: java.net.socketException: connection reset. I don't know what to do and it is stopping me from playing Minecraft with all my friends. I really do not know what to do.

I just got the same problem!
I have never had this problem before..
When I updated to 1.2.2 this message started coming up when I try to connect to multiplayer servers.

Things that might help you help me:
1. I can play single player just fine.
2. I cant connect to most servers.. In fact, there's only one out of my 10 servers that I can connect to. All the others say "internal exception: java.net.socketexception: connection reset"
3. The "IP" to the server which works --> play.epiclandserver.net

I am completely sure this started because of the update. As soon as I updated it stopped working.

I think I know how to fix it, try uninstalling minecraft, and all the folders. The problem may be your folder, but uninstall then reinstall minecraft. I have done it and it worked. If it doesn't work, try playing minecraft on browser, and it might work. The new update (1.2.3) and (1.2.2) made some people have this problem, and it was the updates fault most likely, and when you try to play with a server that has lots of things in it, like lots of houses you can't destroy, or any objects you can't destroy, or many people in it, it probably might not work. If that's not the case for you, Try finding more information about it, check if some other servers work, and if those others does, try what I told you.

I'm having this problem as well, very irritating that no fix has come yet. tried adjusting firewall settings and network settings and all that other stuff you'd think would have anything to do with it, but still nothing works so I guess single player is going to have to do for many months to come :(
