Getting the same error.

By creating a canonical in my hostsfile I was able to connect to my own server;

The first connection maintained for about 2 seconds before disconnecting
The second connection maintained for about 20 seconds before the game crashed
The third connection crashed whilst 'downloading terrain'

In the first two, there was no ground, only sky.

Register or log in to remove.

Same problem here, already posted an Thread in here:

First of all,

I read the FAQ, couldnt use the forum-search cause of server-issues and googled the problem. So lets start:
I brought minecraft, love this game and really feel happy about so many people buying this brilliant game. I was playing on an pretty small server with a few friends, building serious stuff and doing stuff, but since that server went offline, i decided to move to an way bigger server. Now i am playing (or willing to play) on minecraft.rawcritics.com, which is a pretty big server with many cool people. But after 2-5 minutes of playing (sometimes it works, i think it depends on whether i am building or just watching the world) my lan connection freezes (yes, the connection between the lan-adapter and the router). Since my mainboard has two of these lan-adapters changing to the other one gives me internet back, but playing is not possible though (aditionally all streams i am watching/hearing to are stoped, voip discs etc.)

My system runs on an gigabyte ex-38-ds4 which comes with 2x Realtek 8111B chip (10/100/1000 Mbit)

My router is Dlink Dir-300 with real dsl 32mbit

As I found out quiet a lot of the people having this problem are running an gigabyte motherboard. Your ip+port fix makes my system last longer, but still the same problem. I didnt fully understand the other ip fix. Is it server or client side?

Conanical plus matching send/receive buffers at 128k (can't have anything above 128 for send) allows me to connect to my own server without issues; still no world, but it doesn't crash.

As soon as another user tries to connect to me via lan, I get booted on my own machine; his will never get into the game, only crash either to the blue and white crash log screen or the in-game brown error screen.

Exactly the same problem, look at the views of this topic!
:(

System specs:
Windows XP 64-bit
Intel Core2 Duo
Atheros L1 Gigabit
4GB Ram
Geforce 9600GT

I wish there where a solution, I've tried everything, after changing the buffers to 512 it lasts a bit longer, but still the same crash. I have to reboot my pc to get internet connection back up.

Exactly the same problem. I'm starting to believe that it's something related to Giyabyte Motherboards, since I'm using one as well.
Problem is. When I'm playing online, it disconnects from the entire fucking internet, I can't even use google. I have to reset my modem and reconnect the cables for it to work again.

Yeah from the other threads and becouse i have this problem too, the best thing to do is to disconnect your internet cable, wait till the connection stops completely(skype, msn or whatever log out) then plug the cable back in. repeat every time it happens. Enjoy your crappy online experience.

When it started it dossconnected every few hours now i loose connection after a minute and i just started playing SMP few days ago ;-(

Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager (hardware page for WinXP users) -> network adapters -> double click your primary LAN connection -> power management -> uncheck the top box for 'allow windows to turn off this device to save power'.

Should stop you losing connection due to Minecraft doing silly things.

Here is the fix that worked for me. I have been at this 13 hours testing things with Realtek, Atheros, Intel, Broadcom, etc cards. The ONLY thing that has solved this issue for me is to assign a static IP to my network adapter. It has now worked on all of those brands of cards, also did an nVidia just to mix it up. I hope this helps. :Diamond:

I'm getting the same problem.

I have an nForce 680i mobo with its built in NICs. No luck with disabling all of the checksum options. Right now they are re-enabled.

The static IP thing I did solved it on my 680i mobo... actually it's always been static, that's what lead me to my revelation since it could play but no other PCs in the house could.

No go for me on the static IP. heh.. rhymes.

I'm connect through my router; I turned off DHCP and manually entered my IP and DNS entires and all that jazz but no go.

static ip makes it better (same as ip:port when connecting, except only ip) but the problem is still there. I can't believe notch doesnt even mention this fatal but common problem -.-

This thread is not getting the attention it should for the quantity of people getting affected by this socket exeption. I really tought my problem was fixed when I changed the number of transit buffers of my ethernet card to 512... But it just takes the game longer to crash :Diamond:

I'm hoping someone will read this... :(
< bump >
[edit]
Man there are some alternatives like setting the IP to be static... I tried that and my internet crashed.(YAY FOR INTERNET CRASHING EVERYTIME I TRY TO USE MINECRAFT). I belive the standard player of minecraft isn't all that expert in twitching with windows/mac config, we should be counting with a greater tech support since we all paid.
But MC is still in alpha... I don't know... I just wanna play the game!!!!! :' (

[EDIT 2]
My processor is Intel core quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz

This totally needs more attention. I used to be able to connect just fine, but now everyone in my apartment quad is playing on our local server while I can't. On top of that, messing with static IP configurations and stuff is out of the question, since we don't know the router password and can't plug our own in >.<
I really loved SMP before this. Please Notch, make this a top priority.

On that uplifting note, hi guys, I'm new to the forums here :Notch: haha
