internal exception java.net.socketexception connection reset

I have this problem. Seems like people have been having it for months and it has gone unnoticed, so I will make a new thread. The first day I had the game, all was well. Then, it started disconnecting me. When it disconnects me, it fucks my whole internet, and I have to unplug it and plug it back in to restore functionality. This happens when I delete just a few blocks, but if I walk around it seems to work fine.

I have tried a new ethernet pci card, I have tried powerline internet, I have tried wireless internet, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java, I have tried the latest version of .NET framework, I have tried upping buffer limits, I have tried disabling checksum offloading, I have tried resetting the router & modem, I have tried restarting my computer, I have tried lowering the view distance, I have tried hosting my own server (when the person joins it causes the error instantaneously), I have tried disabling Windows Firewall, I have tried disabling AVG (my only anti-virus software), and I have tried placing my computer in the DMZ on my router.

I have Windows XP 32-bit, 2GB Ram, AMD X3 2.4ghz, 512mb Geforce 9800GTX+.

A fair number of people seem to have this issue, but nothing seems to have been done for it. I have exhausted every possibility that I could reason or find, yet the error remains the same. When I lowered my view distance, the problem was fixed for a short time (maybe 1 hour), and then it began happening again at an exponential rate.

The only thing I can think to try that I haven't already is getting Windows 7.

I have the same problem, but I haven't seen a staff member reply in any of the topics about this.
Edit: It seems most people having this problem have an Atheros L1 network card. I have it too, I'm not sure if its coincidental but everyone who has posted saying their card had one.
Interesting.

I just use the onboard network interface on my Gigabyte motherboard. It's a Realtek something or other. I tried a different PCI Ethernet Card, though, to see if it was just the device, and it had no impact what-so-ever.

And yeah, I haven't seen any official comment on it either. Hopefully it gets resolved in the Halloween update, although people seem to have been having this problem for a while, so he must just not have it very high on the priority list.

It's also worth mentioning I have not tried playing the game in Creation mode. I have only ever played Survival Multiplayer, so I hope the bug is resolved as SMP is improved.

I have the same issue.

I hosted a Server on my WinXP Desktop. I can join it myself, no problem. Shortly after a second, local machine joins the game (Mac OS), the WinXP Desktop (acting as server) looses all network connectivity (internet, anything).

One time I found the following error in the server window in line with when the second player disconnected:
..."Internal exception: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset"

And that brought me here. Help?

EDIT: I also see the disconnect error "lost connection: End of stream"... is this related?
EDIT: Realtek RTL8168B/8111B Family PCI-E GBE NIC (Gigabyte mobo, integrated ethernet)

I tend to get this weird error when the server restarts :S

It's worth reporting that, SO FAR, the problem has been fixed by me joining his server with the port concatenated to the IP (XX.XX.XXX.XX:25565). He also set his internal IP (the 192.168.1.X) as the Server IP in the server config file, as well as joining using the same IP with the port added (192.168.1.X:25565).

I was also able to successfully host a server, only encountering the problem after about 30-60 minutes of gameplay, whereas before it was an instant occurrence as soon as someone so much as joined.

It seems, as I said, to have fixed the problem, although Lord knows if it is going to rear its ugly head once again out of the blue in the days to come.

"
in the control panel, open device manager and right click on your ethernet card to open properties. under the advanced tab, change the value of "number of transmit buffers" to 512."

This has worked for me, i played all day yesterday without issue and some of today

As you can see, not everybody has that option :cobblestone:.

So the past 2 days I was riddled with this problem. I couldn't even join a server it just came up with the error after a minute of "Logging in".
I tried reinstalling Java and Minecraft, which did nothing. The only sort of improvement I got was with Humbug's idea. This allowed me to join a server, but crash a few minutes later with the same error.
I recently had some problems with my Motherboard very recently, due to OCing (It's been OC'd for a few years so it's failing often now) I use my onboard Ethernet usually, so I figured I'd try one of my other Ethernet Ports on my PCI cards thinking my Ethernet port could be corrupt. Unfortunetly they both did nothing. I tried disabling all of my Ethernet ports except for the one I'd be using and tried again. And to my suprise it started working! I could join servers and not have java connection reset.
So by using a PCI ethernet card with the transmit buffers set to 512 and being the only Enabled ethernet port on my computer I managed to get it working! When I try and have 2 ports enabled, I cannot join a server. So maybe it has something to do with that?

Tried it with Chubaka2's and humbug's method, but didn't work for me, at least hosting-wise, have to try it with joining today.

When I first tried to play with a friend, I was hosting. He was connecting, but would get disconnected right after with a time out or one of those Java errors, BUT I didn't lose my internet connection...then he was hosting and I tried to join, which first resulted in time outs for 4 or 5 tries, but then I was able to connect and play for some time before getting the Java error and lose my internet.
After some tries I was hosting again, my friend connected, but was disconnected right after with the Java error, but suddenly I lost the internet connection, which didn't happen beforehand...

Using an Atheros L1 network card, too, btw.

Yeah, I have been having this problem too, but only when tunnelling the port over SSH (only way round the university firewall). Worked grand in the release before the current one but now it just errors every time.
