One thing that should be cool is an ender dragon that should be as like as the enderman, but with pipes and golden details. The crystal should be based in the ender portal frame, animated with orange light passing thought it center.
Nice ideas. I just wish I had the time to get round to the dragon, but I have problems keeping up with all the new stuff Mojang are pouring out. Most would probably contest the fact that i think they are pouring stuff out!
Can't wait for v8, got some great plans for the future, too bad my building team consists of a guy who hates texture packs and another who doesn't understand steampunk

Lol! That about sums up my own two sons. One hates steampunk (probably my fault!) and the other couldn't care less about texture packs. I suppose it's good we're all different. Anyway, thanks for your encouragement, Seldser.

And to all, I'm very glad of the company. Slogging through trying to get the right look or pursuing an idea through to completion, can be a pretty isolating experience. So the occasional break to read comments keeps me going.
I hope you will all feel it's been worth the wait and thanks for your patience.
Well, if the sneak peaks are anything to go off of, it will definitely be worth the wait. Can't wait to get my hands on it and see all the new stuff you've added. I may even be tempted to switch back to basic Minecraft and finish up that dome complex after spending so much time with Tekkit.

I'm in the process of making some quick movies now and although it's time consuming, it's quite a good thing I did. I noticed a few last minute things that need urgent attention, one of which was the anvil gui. Little last minute changes Mojang decided to do after the pre-release, which are insignificant to them (like re-positioning their text)...have serious consequences for my over the top gui...so down with the camera and back to work to straighten that particular problem out. Gah!
Not ever having used Tekkit I don't know how much it effects my base pack, but hopefully you'll get a good chance to try out all the new things. See what you think of my vids. I was going to just make one, but there's so much stuff, I'm going to have to split it into shorter movies and keep throwing them up as they get done. Things are more reliable when I render shorter vids than trying to cram everything in.
Sadly I also have a serious problem with MC's smooth camera facility, in that it makes me very nauseous after a few minutes movement, much like I now get on fairground rides. So hopefully the vids will still be watchable. Fraps and MC are not playing too happily together and so I'm having to film everything at half screen size to stop things lagging.
Anyways, nice to see you about, mate. Hope your studies are going ok.
Nice to hear videos are coming closer and closer, and about your recording fraps has one of the lowest minecraft ratings, My brother uses a free software that runs better on his old laptop then fraps did. Maybe if you have other means of recording then you should try them out.

I wish the update was closer and closer! I realize I can't blame Mojang for last minute changes. I only have myself to blame because of the stupid things I try to squeeze in, but it's just taken me an hour to sort out the above text problem in the Repair gui.
Fraps is a strange beast. Usually it works fine and I like it's output, but there are times, usually when I'm rushed and obviously doing something different that it can be a lag fest. Mine is a full paid for version... so I want to get me monies worth out of it!

Glad to provide it, this is my favorite texture pack, i love the artistic direction as well as the atmosphere that it brings to my minecraft worlds, even if it does make my pixel art look a little funny

Still a credit to your ruse, what a beautiful excuse, To never open up your eyes and see the things you lose,
Just climb the beanstalk when you die and meet the giant in the sky.
For your question about Tekkit, unfortunately I won't be able to use most of your new features with it for some time, as the Tekkit crew can be a bit slow to update (due to them waiting for all the mods to be updated). I think the current version is still using MC 1.2.5 as it's base, so while I could see your new wood and stone, the witches, anvils, and bats will be unavailable. (Also, running into a slight problem getting it to run on my desktop, as it requires Java v6, while my comp has v7… and I can't just downgrade it because I need v7 to run the Tekkit server that my friends and I play on. Bit of a catch-22.)

I suppose that's why I've never been able to try out and attach myself to most mods. Most texture packs by necessity work on a different time frame to most mods (except me of course!) in that they are able to prepare before official updates, whereas coders have to wait to unravel the latest code. Is that a fair assessment?

By the way, I'm currently uploading the first taster movie for GS v8 to Youtube. It's going very slow and I'm going to bed. I suppose if you want to catch it first, before I get the chance link to it from my thread here, you could always subscribe to my Youtube channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/UberGaffer/videos?flow=grid&view=0 (hope that's right?!). I won't know if it's ok until I get up in the morning, so be gentle if it's come out all garbled. It's also not super hi-rez or anything, but you should get reasonable detail to be able to make new stuff out.
I've a lot more video footage to edit and render and a lot more v8 stuff to show. In between I'll be finishing off some things...a quick wither skeleton...perhaps, but I'm really getting pushed for time. The big boss 'wither' is all finished, and I'm quite pleased with it...will show it off in a vid soon.
Looks like the video is up. Not seeing any visual glitches yet, although it's taking forever to load (stupid slow school internet connection). However, from what I've seen so far, it looks good. Really like the CTM stuff and the Nether Star.
EDIT: Just finished it. I have to say, top notch as usual. Really love what you've done with everything. I noticed that there were still a few small things to be done, but that's understandable, lots of stuff to add and all that. I really like the new Junglewood, although the new Birch may take a bit of getting used to. I had made the entrance to my mine out of it, giving it a corrugated tin look. I'm sure I can figure something out. Anyway, I can't wait to get my hands on this for myself, see all the textures first-hand.

Glad you like, sheep.
Yeh! sorry about the new birch. You can blame or thank Mojang for their new picture frame for that.
All the woods have been tinkered with at 64x, so that's why the junglewood should look better. Except in doing so I've discovered that you have to be careful not to have any runs of 1 pixel wide contrasting lines, or that's when you get awful pixelation issues. It's just a matter of working to the strengths and weakness of a particular resolution.
Awesome work, Glimmar! It's been a while since I used any texture pack (Actually I even got back to minecraft about month ago after a loong break) so I cannot tell all the changes in your texture pack, but I'm really amazed. Can't wait till I can use it
But I hate what youtube did. Even though I'm subscribed to your channel, it didn't notify me about your new vid... Anyway, Your note about the sounds not being part of the texturepack/minecraft made me wonder.. Did anyone make a steampunk plugin for MAtmos?
Glad you like the first vid!
Well, I'm happy the vid finally uploaded. Sorry it's only a low quality render, there just wasn't time for me to mess around with fraps and the like. I'm kind of saving the better stuff until later (I think).
I'd have long since tinkered with MAtmos myself given the time or the fact that as mentioned above to ksheep, texture pack creators are always out of time with most mod creators.
It would be nice to see something eventually more specifically steampunk, sound-wise. It's amazing what effect the distant sounds of bells, steam horns and heavy machinery have to the atmosphere of a cityscape. I've even put down a little portable sound recording device on my Christmas wish-list to carry with me on my RL travels, to see what sounds I can capture for movie making.

Just bear in mind this and the next few vids will be showing off my update for all the new textures for MC 1.4.x and more animations, ctm and edits. I'm sure you'll be able to decipher what's what...If not, just ask.

the new witch + the new beacon gui looks amazing! (the beacon gui really made me speachless for a few seconds)
would it be possibe to make the saddle some kind of
brain-control devise, and the carrot-on-a-stick could be some kind of controler to said devise?(just an idea)

Hiya, jippii_ja.
Nice to see you lookin' in. Hope all is well. I'm busy rendering as many vids as I can before updating, so look out for the beacon gui in action soon. I'm glad you like it, as that alone accounted for the largest single effort over the past couple of months. Closely followed by the 'repair/anvil' gui and 'wither' textures. All animated by the way.
I'm surprised that so many are expressing an interest in using the carrot on a stick with the pig. I think I'm obviously missing something, because I've not tried it out yet!
I shall have to have a look at it after I've updated... I will certainly keep your request in mind.
Glad you like the new stuff so far.
Next vid is due in three hours according to Youtube!:
'Vegetables, Pumps & A Crazy Prof.' Glimmar's Steampunk Update v8 Taster Vid 2
I've seen the Dokucraft team making a pig armor (saddle texture) and carrot on a stick as a pike. A knight in full diamond armor with a pike in hand, riding on an fully armored pig.. Yeah, that looked really interesting
Nice video! You had said you wanted the animals to have steampunk parts instead of being just machines or just animals, so why not make ocelots and wolves normal, but the tamed version would be with added parts. you could do the same with the pig. this way everyone gets what they asked for, even you Oh and you are missing alot, these pigs go fast and if you right click you can swap to a weapon while controlling the pig. PvP has never been so much fun.
EDIT: Forgot to mention how much i love the animation on both the nether star, and the paintings! If only i could place paintings on the top and bottom of blocks, Oh and i did notice some animations on the few blocks, where the red pulse was moving to the bottom, Not sure i know what block it was but it looks really good ^.^

I will never understand why paintings have never been made floor and ceiling mountable, nor why we don't have more in the vanilla pack, nor why we always have to take pot luck when placing them...but then I'm not a programmer.
The block with the animated cogs and pulses of redstone energy is the new 'Controller Block'. It was designed to work with redstone dust/pipes in such a way as to appear as if it was working through a program from a punch card roll system. When mojang fix the placement orientation (it currently always faces the same direction) then I can add a top animation showing the revolving barrels. The cog animation was incredibly tedious to do, but in creative it provides a nice little working machine to attach to pipes and things. Which was the intention. I doubt I will ever use it for the purpose for which it was really intended.

EDIT: Great video, I like the work with the command block. I also like what you did with the portal frames, useing them with fence for piping, It looks good kinda tapering down to the right size.
Lol! having spent nearly a week animating the flippin' thing, you'd think I'd remember what the name of the 'command' block was. Why did I call it the 'controller' block? Same difference I suppose, but sorry 'bout that.

Another vid is on the way soon...
EDIT: Great video, I like the work with the command block. I also like what you did with the portal frames, useing them with fence for piping, It looks good kinda tapering down to the right size.
