Hey everyone I had a thought a few minutes ago. During holidays Mojang normally adds capes that everyone can run around with right? Well why not incorporate that into the "adventure update" since its main focus will be combat and exploration. Personally I would love to run around exploring dungeons and have a cape fluttering in the breeze.

Just a thought, Might be cool.

Thanks everyone

No, capes are for people who have actually achieved stuff. Like the special capes for staff, for the person who designed the pigman skin etc.

And yeah, I'm really not sure what this mob is. I'm thinking with an open mind, and all I can think of is a sex mad robot who spawns at Christmas.

Seems like a good idea to me.... it doesn't seem to affect gameplay at all, though.
Perhaps as an additional armor item, or in lieu of a chestplate, get faster walking speed?

IKR?
My brother and I were talking about this a few days ago
Make the cape/cloak be part of the skin template
If you don't want a cape, just leave the section invisible

hey guys how bout this?
Make the cape customizable just like a skin and you can change your cape on the page where you change your skin
I had another thread going but it was locked because there was already another thread about it(this one, i think)
come look at it and maybe see what i suggested
http://www.minecraft...to-the-players/
I AM GONNA REVIVE THIS THREAD! seeing as how MY thread was locked

Capes are already in the game but you can only get them through special achivements-the 1,000,00th buyer of Minecraft got one among other things.

So the only capes should be those, or perhaps craftable, simply colored ones.

EXACTLY! Capes are ALREADY in minecraft!, why not make them available to everyone else?
The programming for cape is already there so thats like, half the work done
then the programmers would just have to conifgure the skin chooser into andother one that lets you choose your cape!

Cokers didn't you read that? "... you can only get them through special achievements - the 1,000,000th buyer of Minecraft got one..."

It's clearly only for when you do things specially. Also two other things, it would only really affect SMP seem-as-though it can be awkward to be in third person all the time just to see the cape which you won't really see from any different angles and secondly it doesn't give much to abilities does it? If it won't do anything in SSP at any given time, then it's not needed.

So what about you're skin? you can't really see your skin in SSP unless you're in 3rd person mode as well. AND YOUR FACE! since you can't even see your face unless you go into you'r inventory or use a mod, i guess that should be removed too right? I mean, what's the point of having a skin? is that what you feel too? hmm?
All that need to happen is to tweak the coding

Can you guys atleast think about your ideas longer than 20 seconds? Capes would be nice but it should be an option because some adventures don't look good with capes (IE Mario, Link, Master Cheif.)

Also having custom capes would have people making relicas of the Mojang cape.

1) You answered it partially for me as we have an inventory that shows a little self that follows the mouse which is rather nice and follows some retro game trends as Minecraft is in retro game style and it can be a good way to quickly reference what armour we have on.

2) Skins are essentially cosmetic, we don't particularly need them but it helps in SMP to distinguish people, capes won't do that better.

3) You see your right arm when playing first-person so it's nice to be able to change that.

I did indeed think it out, unfortunately the thread was deleted due to this thread existing and the idea already suggestedif you wanna check it out here
Obviously, you could always paint the cape to be invisible because guys, pedobear dosen't need a cape, nor does Link
Or better yet, the default cape would be invisible

1) But as you mentioned it's not needed but its there anyways and you have to open up your inventory and are susceptible to ninja creeper attacks

2)And capes would also help players differentiate two different players in SMP if they have the same skin

3) But the right arm hide's itself whenever you have something in our hand which is in about 90% of minecraft playing

Guys guys guys guys guys.
I think I have a solution to this idea!

Have capes unlockable/findable/craftable in the adventure update, but do it the way the Aether did it. I mean, with the new Strongholds coming out which are pretty much bigger dungeons, have it so that you can find cool capes in them, that don't show up on multiplayer.
So single-player only capes, basically, would work better than just new ones.

That WOULD work, but wouldn't you want to customize your cape instead of using generic capes?

How would this work? What does a cape do for SSP in this instance as according to that idea it's only for SSP?
