Alright, I used the search and I saw a thread about sharing in the same household, but I have a different question about that. If I were to say, have a friend on the internet who's bought the game, can we share? (He gives me his password and I log in as him to get Alpha, etc.) or am I breaking some sort of rule?

if you and a sibling were sharing, i dont see anything wrong with that but sharing an account with some random person across the interwebs just so you can play seems kind of iffy to me but i dont know

lol I don't think Notch would approve of that since he would lose money but if that is the only way yo can get Minecraft then go for it. I can't buy Minecraft because parents don't want to give me their credit card. I tried using a prepaid card but the process is to complicated. The only option is to go around asking for people to gift it to me. Would anyone like to? I'm pretty desperate.

I would assume he's violating some ToS agreement if you're not intending to actually buy the game at a sooner-than-later date.

I let my girlfriend use my account for about two days to play alpha just so she could try it out, and then she ended up buying it because she liked it so much. I don't really see the harm in letting people you know IRL using your account just to "try it before they buy it". You know, that sort of thing.

But, if you have some "friend" on the "series of tubes" who just gives you their account info so you can have the full game without paying for it... I'd assume that's against some sort of rule.

One of my friends let me borrow their account so i could try it out for awhile just to see if i liked it.

I bought it about a week later.

So i think its alright if its to try it out to see if you like it.

Several things come to mind.  If you have to ask if it's ok it usually isn't.  If you're doing it to avoid spending money I'd say it isn't ok.  If you're using a "donated"/"communal"/"public" account because you can't/don't want to buy it then I say it's probably not ok.

If you don't like anything I had to say on the topic, think of it this way.  Is it something a big company like say... EA, Blizzard (World of Warcraft, etc), Microsoft and other companies would not be happy with you doing then it's probably not a good idea to do it to this publisher either.  Consider this point as well.  Those are multimillion dollar companies.  This game is developed by ONE guy.  If you want progress beyond alpha and less bugginess spend the money and be legit.
Never do today what you can put off tomorrow.  Especially if Minecraft is involved.

Can anyone share an account with me? I was gone for the free weekend play so I'm pretty bummed. I would like to try it out before I buy the game. PM me if you are willing. Thanks!

Legally, I don't think you are in a lot of trouble. Morally, it is pretty low picking a password of the web or something. Think if you were Notch, and you were working on this game a lot only to have "friends" share accounts. Also, we are talking about a 10 euro game here, its not like this game is 60 USD, which I have heard a lot of people are willing to pay for it.

Last I read Notch is cool with people sharing with friends to give them a taste of the game.
