A Java version has been delayed because I wanted to fix the normal version.

Download .7z - ImageToMap 1.1.2
Download .zip - ImageToMap 1.1.2
Download .tar.gz - ImageToMap 1.1.2

THIS IS NOT A MOD.
AND YOU DON'T NEED THE PROGRAM TO USE THE MAPS!

Here's a tutorial on how to create a map with the 0.4 version (thank you TheEliteMoose!):

ImageToMap 0.4

ImageToMap is a lightweight and powerful Minecraft map editing tool. It can transform different image formats into a .dat that Minecraft uses for maps. So basically you can use maps as a book for example.

If you have any suggestions, complaints or problems don't hesitate to tell me.

ImageToMap is a program you can use to put a bmp png or jpg file into a Minecraft map item as you see below.
If you have any suggestions, complaints or problems don't hesitate to post them below.

I couldn't find any program that did this when I searched on Google so I decided to make my own.

Stupid Facts:
The 7z and zip file contains ImageToMap.exe 31kB and colors.con 753B.
The xCenter of the maps generated by ImageToMap is 13371337 and zCenter -13371337.

To do list:
1. Fix so that black isn't converted to green.
2. Custom zoom level when you load an image.
3. Add save raw bytes again.
4. Change program window icon to the program icon.
5. Changeable window size.
Ooh, nice. :D

It's really just converting an image to an map_x.dat file and then you can use the map file to see the image in Minecraft using a map item.
But thanks anyways for posting! :D

I updated ImageToMap so I thought why not make another bump to put this a little bit higher on the first page.

Just amazing, it helps alot if you want to display other things that signs etc. can't handle.
Download it! You won't regret it!

Wow, that's intresting. If I modify a map, and save the world as a zip, when someone plays the map will they see the modifyed map? Like, the altered world file is stand alone? I'm guessing this is the case which is pretty cool.

Currently, a map only charts the surface of a world, but with this you could take a picture of a slice of a dungeon, and paste that picture in a map. Then you would have a dungeon map, and if the picture was right your map position would be accurate.

Could also be used for picture clues, story info (waiting for books in 1.8 though), and other neat stuff. Well done, and thanks for making this!

This would only be possible with a mod or bukkit plugin.

I should note a big flaw with this way of accessing map data and that's you can't see the position of yourself or the position of others. That's because the center of the map is 13371337 x and -13371337 z. If the center of the map where 0 x and 0 z you would overwrite the map every time you look at it.

Is there a way to paint a 'transparent' colour, like an unrevealed map?

Oh, and for users, for 100% conversion use only the colours from this palette linked here

This is going to be awesome for adventure maps.

I can actually add that because you will never be able to reach far enough to explore that area
And by the way I'm going to start working on a new update, and that's going to be in it. ;)
