Minecart Speed Recorder

This mod displays the current minecart speed. It can also record the speed so you can walk down the track afterwards and see exactly what speed the minecart had at any point, allowing you to place powered rails at optimal positions etc.

Download: Version 2.0.1 for Minecraft 1.1

Installation
1) Install Risugami's ModLoader.
2) Put the zip file into the .minecraft/mods folder.

Description
  • Current Minecart Speed: As soon as you enter a Minecart, something like "Minecart Speed: 8.0 / 9.7" is displayed in the upper right. The first number is the actual speed of the minecart (i.e. the horizontal distance in blocks it moves per second), the second number is the internal "momentum" of the minecart that can be increased even if the cart has already reached the maximum speed of 8.0 (or 11.3 on diagonals).
  • Recording: To begin recording, press shift/sneak while you are in a minecart. When you walk along the track later, the recorded speed is displayed in the upper right of the screen.
  • If you sneak/press shift on the recorded path, a full list of all the recorded momentum values (one for each "tick" of 1/20 seconds) is displayed.

The mod now works in SMP, but since it is a client mod and the minecarts are simulated on the server, the speeds are only updated sporadically, so its use for finding optimal powered rail positions is limited on SMP.

Due to a bug in ModLoader, the speed can be recorded at most once per rendered frame. So if you want to make sure that all ticks are recorded, keep the frame rate above 20 fps somehow.

Yes. It may not work very well in laggy multiplayer.

This mod looks AWESOME, but I'm not going to get it because it conflicts with Improved Chat (uk.class), which is an essential for SMP.

I have made a new version that uses ModLoader, this should fix most conflicts. It now changes only one class, yc.class/EntityMinecart.

Great work, maybe add some other skins for the actual speed recorder?

I'm afraid this won't work, the mod only displays the speed of minecarts.

something else that would be useful is a mine cart you can pull around with you so you can take chests, furnaces, and even animals and monsters with you (monsters = pet slimes)

Updated for Minecraft 1.0.

No, this doesn't change the max speed, it just displays the speed without changing how minecarts move.
