String and how to make it not suicidal to get

Make string also come from wool. Seems too easy, right? Meet the ram. Whenever a sheep spawns, one to two other sheep and a ram will spawn. Rams do not give any drops. They move at two speeds. The walking speed of sheep, and a ramming speed twice that of the players speed. The ram can't turn well (one block to the side for every two blocks covered) when charging and the charge lasts for 10 blocks. It has a two second cool down (the ram can't move during this time). It becomes aggressive when you are within 10 blocks (x axis. 5 on the y axis, to prevent tricking it into a fatal fall without putting yourself in at least some danger).
The charging attack does 2.5 hearts worth of damage. Now, what's so hard about waiting for the sheep to wander away? Sheep stay within 7 blocks (x axis. 3 blocks on the y axis) of the ram at all times, following if it moves (this waits until after it loses aggression. Upon the ram losing aggression, they will look for the nearest ram in a 50 block radius. If there is none, then they just randomly wander). So you can do a hit and run, but you better be fast else you'll be under the ram
Now, this isn't all. When you use nine wool on the craft table, you make fleece. What is this used for? Well, you need to spin it. You need to make a machine that is made of three parts
Part 1: Wheel. Now, you may be going, "CIRCLES ARE NOT ALLOWED!" but the wheel would be square. 8 wood with stick in middle.
Part 2: Bars. I'm not sure of the technical term (the machine is based off of the spinning jenny)
Part 3: Base. Do I need to explain?
  
You combine these on the craft table (assume log is wheel, stick is bars, and wood is base)
  
When using it, you put fleece in. You have to wait on the screen or else it won't spin. Now mind you, it goes three times faster than smelting, but still, it is an inconvience. The I key, of course, exits out in case you need to deal with something

But i like rams.
Well, the suicidal part was an exaggeration. It is still nasty to go out in the middle of the night to hunt for spiders, though. Especially when a horde of skeletons spawns nearby >.>

This adds a lot of needless complexity for very little gain. I would prefer being able to de-craft cloth into string, and make spider silk distinct and better than string.

string is supposed to be slightly challenging to get early on so you dont have a bow too fast.

I've only had a day time spawn in my house once, and there was a 7x7 patch of grass where it spawned, so I don't think that it would appear in the base unless you set it up to be a good place for spawns
As for the complexity, it was the only thing I could think of that still made string hard to get. To be fair, however, this idea was originally combined with an idea for blowguns that would allow one to poison and kill rams from a distance (not really a replacement for bows due to overall sucky range and the inability to do anything to spiders or undead, leaving it just for the ram and peaceful mobs) so I should have taken the fact that it wasn't combined with this idea anymore into account

not that i have heard anything about but string is not that hard to get. even in multiplayer where there aren;t even spiders other then 2-3 in a dungeon. they are in Dungeon chests sometimes to. if you dig around alot and find them it's easy. i've seen maybe 8 spiders in multiplayer but i have over 40 strings from the chests.
