(Or at least my interpretation of it)
I made this based on the old series Space Battleship Yamato that i remember seeing as a child in the mid 80's.
It took 50+ hours to complete and i used lots of picture/video reference to get the shape and detail somewhat accurate. I finished the model in dec 2010. (Since i was "in between jobs" I had some spare time to kill.)
The ship model was built in creative mode with assist of Omen 0.6.
(About 50% of the time in the editor and 50% running jumping and placing blocks.)
After finishing the model i decided to test it in survival mode since colored blocks was just added.
I roughly modified an existing map to get the space required for the ship and added it in using MCEdit.
Ship dimensions:
L417xW78xH119 squares (takes almost 2 minutes to walk from front to back)
it uses almost the entire height of a map (That was my limit in deciding scale, close to 1:1)
It is completely hollow, in survival mode its pitch black inside = mobs everywhere.
What is the Space Battleship Yamato?:
Space Battleship Yamato intro (Anime from 1974, even older then Starwars)
Yamato Intro (3D/Anime)
(Ice version)
(Water version)
Space Battleship Yamato
(Theatrical trailer 2010) <- Looks interesting

Would I do something similar again? Not likely, but it was a fun experience.
I hope you like it.
(I will add both the model and the map for download later)
