There is no need to give direct folder path. Minecraft by default uses environment variables to get to it's install location. That variable is %appdata%\.minecraft\ Because it uses environment variables it does not matter what OS you are using going to %appdata%\.minecraft will always bring you to the minecraft installation.
Another option is to use the NEW launcher. Click options and it has a little link that says "Game location on disk" clicking that will bring you to the folder.
