Well If that happens, all you have to do Is dig a 1x2 pit (Because you never dig straight down on a 1x1 pit) straight down about three to four blocks then place blocks above you and drop some torches in so you can see, then dig a small tunnel until your close to the skeletons. Dig a murder hole (A hole where you can hit them but they can't hit you) and fist them (If your out of weapons;D)

I pretty much solve every hostile mob problem with lava nowadays. But, now I know where to look for that spider... Also, I have never found a need to build a mini-base inside a cave system I always just go back to the surface to deposit my diamonds. All in all, good guide.
Let your anger be as a monkey in a piƱata... hiding amongst the candy... hoping the kids don't break through with the stick!
Punch it with an aircraft carrier. It's the only way to be sure.

I have enough with a Pickaxe/Sword/Shovel, stack of food and Gravel, you don't need anything else.

Great guide!

One other thing great thing about a water bucket is that water knocks out spiderwebs immediately. This has helped me a lot dealing with cave spider spawners.

Great article! I allways spend so much time diggy digging in mc it's my favorate thing to do. Ill keep this all in mind as i build my dwarven citadel and run my deep roads to all my thaigs. If anyone remember's back to X's adventures in minecraft lets play, his mining shaft one for the operation diamond might be good for massive systems that stretch deep but wont go to the surface. I feel it gives me organised aproach top the system by level and quick surface acces for needs I cant get underground.

How to destroy a creeper:

Lure the creeper to you.

Let him bump into you. HISS....

Hit him as far as you can reach.

Run backwards very fast.

BOOM!!!

Just went through it and updated some things.  Some things were shortened and others were lengthened, and maybe a new thing or two.  No drastic changes.  I'm thinking of ditching my current navigation system in favor of just putting torches on the right or something, since my old system was originally based on cave systems that could be fully explored.

And the mini-base was originally devised because you might have to wander for a few hundred blocks to find a good cave system.  Now with essentially unlimited caves directly under your base, it isn't as important.  I've been thinking of just removing that section.
