Client install

With ModLoader:

Put the mod_MoreFuel.class from the archive in minecraft.jar,
or put the archive itself in /.minecraft/mods/ directory.

After the first run, mod_moreFuel.cfg will appear in /.minecraft/
with the following contents:

# mod_MoreFuel configuration
# ==========================
# Lines starting with # are ignored.
# Burn time values: 200 = 10 seconds or 1 item smelted.
# IDs can be seen on http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Data_values
# Available commands:
# Don't load mod's additional fuel defaults:
#NoDefaults
# Add fuel item/block (ID, burn time):
#AddFuel 3, 200
# Add fuel item/block (ID:damage, burn time):
#AddFuel 44:2, 300

Change the configuration as you wish.

Server install

Overwrite tp.class in minecraft_server.jar
with the version from the archive directory "server".

Ensure that no other server mod previously had tp.class overwritten.

Note that mod_moreFuel.cfg will appear in the current
directory automatically only after the first furnace was encountered.
Either make a furnace, or put the file yourself.

Description

Got too many items but hesitating to throw them away?
Now you can burn them and get some use of it!

This mod adds the following items/blocks as furnace fuel:
(burning time in seconds, 10s = one item smelted)

Feather - 1s
String - 1s
Paper - 2s
Leaves - 2s
Vines - 2s
Tall grass - 2s
Wheat - 2s
Sugar cane - 2s
Map - 2s
Book - 5s
Bowl - 5s
Arrow - 5s
Painting - 5s
Torch - 5s
Redstone torch - 5s
Wool - 5s
Wooden sword - 10s
Wooden shovel - 10s
Wooden pickaxe - 10s
Wooden axe - 10s
Wooden hoe - 10s
Bow - 10s
Fishing rod - 10s
Saddle - 10s
Wooden door - 15s
Sign - 15s
Bed - 15s
Boat - 15s
Ladder - 15s
Wooden pressure plate - 15s
Wooden slab - 15s
Netherrack - 20s

- Coal or charcoal is still the most efficient fuel
- Damaged wooden tools burn just as good
- Wool color doesn't matter
- It's better to break the boat into 3 planks and 2 sticks instead of burning it

Have fun!

Looks very good! I like it that Netherrack and wooden tools now have a purpose. I know Netherrack's okay for traps and decoration but...this just makes it much more useful. And as for wooden tools, I'm sure there are plenty of Minecrafters out there who still have their wooden tools in a storage chest somewhere. I know I do. And hey, Wool gets annoying after a while too. Overall a great first mod in my opinion, I will try it sometime!

I've read your suggestion, master525.
There isn't much use for a just burning for the heck of it thing, doesn't make much sense in burning flowers, seeds, wheat and mushrooms, not sure about the gunpowder either.

Fireplace is well simulated with hidden burning netherrack.

But you reminded me about wooden slabs, thanks!

I've looked into the code, looks like adding them would be troublesome and unclean, as they share the same blockID with stone, sandstone and cobble slabs and only blockID is passed to the AddFuel function in ModLoader. Hmm...

You said that coal is the best fuel, that is unfortunately rong. Bucket of lava is the best fuel at 100s.

Longer lasting fuel per one item - definitely. Per full stack? No. Easier to obtain? Depends. Faster to use? Nope.
According to the article http://www.minecraft...et/wiki/Furnace

I think this is an awesome idea, but it needs to be more balances, u shud make d rarer items burn for longer (ex. string u can only get by killing a spider, or chests in dungeons - and u made it burn for only a second) and u made nether rack burn for the longest 20s, in my opinion its 2 easy 2 get 2 burn for 20 seconds. anyways Its an awesome mod.

Well, I based items burn time on my interpretation of "Minecraft way" and realism, not on the items rarity.
I'm quite certain that it's wasteful to burn strings if you need them.

Any chance we can get saplings in this list? I've got a few stacks languishing in my chests that I would like to put to use.

Saplings are a 5s fuel in original Minecraft since Beta 1.5, so no addition needed =)

killthenrun1, I think you aren't risking anything by installing the mod without ModLoader. It overwrites the class ModLoader would use, so if you just unpack the archive into minecraft.jar, after installing ModLoader it will change to ModLoader-compatible version.

By the way, turns out to be 1.6.4 compatible without any changes.
