Hey guys, I purchased the game a couple of days ago and have been hosting my own server(survival) with a few friends. When im staring the server it get that "NOT ENOUGH RAM!" message, the server starts up anyway and it runs fine, eventually(about 4 hours+) it starts to lag a bit forcing me to restart the server. I have 8 gigs of ram so i dont think its because my current ram is too low(lol). I see it says to launch the game with a specefic command but I am unaware of how to do that, If I could receive ANY help I would GREATLY appreciate it!

Open notepad
Put in the text:
java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar
File > Save As
Browse to where minecraft_sever.jar is.
For the filename, enter minecraft.bat
for the file type, Select All Types.
Click Save.

Then double click Minecraft.bat to run the server with that command.

You have to run the client separately.  The server just creates the world and allows other users to connect.  This includes yourself.  It doesn't have a client built into it.

I'm having the same problem, after about 30 minutes or so it starts to lag up and eventually crash. I'm on Windows 7, and have done the notepad trick to give it more ram but still having a bit of trouble.

Not sure if it's just me but when I gave it "more ram" it's still not much it feels.

If you are running a multicore system (very likely these days if the computer is less than 4 years old), then try setting the processor affinity (on Windows) or use taskset on Linux.  That may solve the 'Overloaded/time changed' error.

If your system has less than 1024 megs, then in the Java startup line, change "-Xmx1024M -Xms1024M" to "-Xmx512M -Xms32M"

On Windows, bring up task manager (ctrl-shift-escape), find 'javaw.exe' on the Processes tab, right click it, Set Affinity, unclick all but one CPU.

On Linux, start the process with "taskset -c 1" before "java":

taskset -c 1 java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui

I suspect the "overloaded/time changed" issue is due TSC drift on multi core systems (normal, not an uncommon problem, more an issue with time measurement functions not sticking with the times, the TSC is no longer reliable for measuring time deltas and so trying to use it to determine how long something took - such as for the purposes of warning about being 'overloaded', can have wildly inaccurate results).

I got the same problem with:

[INFO] Starting minecraft server version 0.2.1
[WARNING] **** NOT ENOUGH RAM!
[WARNING] To start the server with more ram, launch it as "java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar"

System:

Operating System:
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
CPU:
AMD Phenom II X4 820 36 °C
Deneb 45nm Technology
RAM:
4.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 664MHz (9-9-9-24)

How can i take: NOT ENOUGH ram make it go away?

The way of: (.bat) doesnt work.

And how would one accomplish this?

this worked for me in the bat file

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar

instead of using just "java" i put the whole path to the javaw.exe in quotes. (this is the default windows 7 64bit java install path)

note: i tried setting it to 2048 but it gave me some kind of "could not create virtual machine" error

Worked like a charm. I think the problem is there are different solutions for different OS. WinXP and Win7 are different solutions.

No, the solution waka posted is the same as the earlier one, just that if you don't have java in your PATH variable you have to provide the full file path to it (C:\Program Files\etc...)
