I've had Minecraft for about 3 days and I'd like to uninstall it, I don't just mean I'd like to delete the minecraft file from my hard drive I mean a full uninstall that removes all the files related to Minescraft.
The following isn't important but just to fill in why.
I downloaded the minecraft alpha and it worked fine no problems on my mac for a while until for seemingly no reason, whenever I tried to start the application it would let me log in then present an "updating minecraft" screen where it said "done loading" with the loading bar just about complete but then sat in this state forever. I tried deleting the file, redownloading re deleting, downloading the linux file, playing the online version, deleting all my java data updating and reinstalling java and resetting my browser settings. none of these had any effect. I thought oh well it still works in windows and have been playing it on that since then.
Now, today I've ran into the same problem on my windows computer, so now I'm certain that whatever is causing the error is a file saved on my computer by minecraft but I have no idea where it would be kept. Thus I wan't to know how I can completely uninstall minecraft and all the files relating to it so I can fresh install and hopefully get it working again.
and seriously block textures are smileys?
Deleting the "bin" and "resources" folder would delete ALL textures, models, and sounds.
You will automatically re-download the files to their default properties the next time you run the game.
If you're on Mac, I do not have a clue where the directory is.
If you're on Windows, "appdata" is a hidden folder in your user files.
My windows PC is completely messed up, I C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft does not exist
however I deleted the files in ~\Library\Application Support\Minecraft\ on my mac (excluding my savegame ofcourse) and it works perfectly again. Thankyou very much. I don't need windows minecraft if mac minecraft is working.
See that "YOUR USERNAME"? Change it to yours. AppData may have a different name in your Windows version.
Your primary drive may also be a different one than "C:"
Hahaha, yes, I am not that stupid. No my computer has no users folder. I searched my computer for minecraft and the only existing file with that name is C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\Minecraft.exe
along with the few other minecraft files i have on my desktop. I also looked in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data but it's not in there. It doesn't matter it works on my mac now so thats good enough.
Thanks for the help anyway!

Okay, now to fix the mac problem. I'm willing to donate 100$ to get you Windows OS
After removing the 'minecraft' data folder in your ~/Library/Application Support folder, you'll also want to go to Applications>Utilities>Java Preferences, select the Network tab, select 'View Cache Files...' set 'Show:' to Resources, and delete anything from http://www.minecraft.net.
well well well i broke minecraft =( i was installing textur pack and now the game just fails to playand i can dealet the resource folder but not bin it say its open in an other folder when its not plz help
argh >< Alright SO I have literally done everything this thread has said to do to uninstall/fix Minecraft.....yeah nothing worked T.T
I still think that I did not uninstall it completely since every time i re-download it my username and password are still in the spaces. Along with this every time I hit login it just goes black, but for like a millisecond I can see it goes to the download screen and then black. What would I be able to do to fix this?
ok, ever since i downloaded minecraft there hasnt been any sound. i went the settings menu and sound was off, but everytime i try to click it to turn the sound on the whole minecraft window closes. i found this page and was hopping deleting my bin and resourses would fix this problem. it didnt. i am running windows xp. can anyone help?!?

OMG thank you i try deleating a mod and deleted everything so thank you
ok here are three files for un-installing minecraft. they should work with mac linux and windows and will remove the game for whatever user is logged in.
UninstallLinux.sh
rm -r ~/.minecraft
UninstallMac.sh
rm -r "~/Library/Application Support/Minecraft"
UninstallWindows.bat
del /f /s %APPDATA%\.minecraft
Not very hard, perhaps the devs can add this to the launcher in the future
