INFORMATION & RULES
This is primarily a Single Player Adventure, but you can have a partner! The multiplayer spawn should be working correctly. Please leave a comment if this is not the case.
The rules are included within the map itself, but for convenience here they are:
Can be played on any difficulty. Normal is recommended, though!
As with all other Adventure maps, do not place blocks.
Simiarly, you may only remove Sand, Gravel, and Clay blocks.
You may use tools, and may place and remove non-Redstone Torches.
You may only burn Wool.
Throughout the Adventure, you will find Lapis Lazuli (and Diamonds, if you're working with a partner). Lapis Lazuli is your 'score', while Diamonds are just rewards for doing SMP-specific challenges.
SCOREBOARD
As of v1.3, there are 70 pieces of Lapis Lazuli, and 10 Diamonds in the map.
1st Place - UNH0LYH0B0 / Atonement (71 Lapis) (v1.2) 2nd Place - Calahagus (36 Lapis) (v1.2) 3rd Place -

Any and all constructive feedback is welcome! I'm new to Adventure map creation, but I've taken some direction from a few maps I've enjoyed.
I wanted to design a map in honour of my recently deceased friend as we both enjoyed the architecture of this . Please don't let this sway your judgment of the map, though, as I'm here to be criticized and grow!
Thanks for the compliment!
I was excited to do a theme that wasn't really explored that much, and I figured people tired of the "explore temple, find ingots" genre.
Please leave your thoughts on the map once you've tried it out!
Just remember it's only a WIP as of right now, so there's no end to it.
I'm very excited to try and tackle the main resevoir area, that'll contain a massive waterfall which is the origin of the water in the waterways, as well as some hidden goodies.
First area puzzle was promising.
Then when I reached the canals (with colored walls) I was like... omg... this is going to be a long map. Definitely got an epic feeling...
Didn't find any clay or sand, just lots and lots and lots of gravel.
Can I break paintings? I broke them all to see if anything was hidden.
Am I allowed to take torches off walls?
Cheated a bit (used stack of gravel) to get to dispensers (since I'm not on multiplayer). 2 slimeballs... wow...
So much light, there's almost no mobs
Used up my flint & steel on the colored wool along the waterway... fruitless.
Burnt the big wooden grates by lighting the nearby wool.
I guess I went through every door and burnt everything I could find. ... now what?
I don't really "get" the story. You're down in some ancient waterways that were half-built but half-labeled for detonation.... and you collect a bunch of useless stuff.
A+ for effort and departure from the same old same old... but overall C.
Hm, alright.
This is actually very useful, aside from the letter grades.
I suppose the rules are a bit misleading, with me putting wool everywhere - but allowing you to burn it.
I've included shovels for convenience in future versions, so that the gravel dig isn't nearly as annoying. Speaking of, I'd do well to reduce the bland nature of that sort of thing, I suppose. I wish I managed to get Eden out, but that's still no excuse. :biggrin.gif:
I think I do need to re-examine the map as a whole before continuing any further. I guess it feels like the inspiration and construction of the earlier areas is really its only strong point, so I should work to enhance that. Less empty 'flavour' rooms, less conflicting story, and more darkened / challenging areas.
I'm still going to keep some of the items, like dyes, but for foods and weapons, I suppose there is little use for them if the map itself doesn't have many instances of danger - making it feel a bit bland overall? It just becomes a treasure hunt at that point, I concur.
I'll look into revising some of the older areas, and incorporating less small, shallow rooms and the like. I also need to make the story seem more interconnected, rather than what it is now.
I appreciate the feedback; I just hope I can work on those things you've mentioned. For a list of things off the top of my head, the new changes could include:
Inclusion of 'more frequent' small puzzles
Less brighter areas (for mobs and a feeling of danger)
Reducing the redundancy of empty (in the Adventure map sense) rooms
Maybe change Slime Balls to something more gratifying, like Gold or Diamond - just for continued incentive?
Thanks for the help thus far - I'd still appreciate other feedback as well (even if they agree with the above poster). I'll look into making this 'not just another map', then.
Don't take anything I said too harshly - this is a really good start. I was impressed with the waterways themselves.
You have 3 or so areas that are blocked off as 'under construction'. I assumed you were building something down those hallways to include in next release. Or putting something behind the wooden grates.
I wouldn't spend too much time changing what you have - but expand on it :smile.gif:
Well, I'm definitely a fan of improving areas that I felt were weaker but left intact anyways.
I'm at least going to try and make some of the earlier areas more appealing, as well, but if anything, yes, I'll just try to expand on what I can - and in a manner that's more akin to what players liked.
I guess there can be a few 'shallow' rooms for a breather, I suppose.
Some of the tunnels won't ever be fully (re)constructed, due to the nature of the map (and limitations of space), but I'm definitely up for adding smaller puzzles more frequently. I've really wanted to do some water puzzles - as it fits in so well with the nature of the map.
In any case, thanks so much for the criticism. :smile.gif:
I tend to be a bit more self-critical, but I now I know there are definitely weaker areas.
(Also, there's a lot less wool in the upcoming builds. Makes burning things simpler and more straight forward.)
Sorry about the lack of news lately. I've been a bit busy with personal business, and haven't gotten as much progress on the map as I'd like to.
The map has changed a lot since the initial release, with a bit more of a consistent view in terms of story / background information, so expect an updated Beta version in the coming weeks!
To tide you over, here's a few more screenshots of the newer areas:
The Main Intersection (or resevoir, as I incorrectly labelled it in the past). I think it's a bit smaller than I intended, so I might go back and extend this area's size. Not sure if I'll have the motivation to overhaul that large of an area already, though. Intersection (WIP)
Eden and its construction is eating a large portion of my time, but I hope it'll look pretty when it's done! Synthetic grass, due to no sunlight. It's also fairly dark, so I'll be lowering the ceiling slightly, or be ornating the area with more glass / glowstone in the higher structure. Eden (WIP) #1 Eden (WIP) #2
Just as a reminder, these are preview screenshots of the version coming soon! These areas are also still quite heavily unfinished, so they're not an accurate representation of what may be the final product. Please feel free to post any comments or criticism, inquiries about the map, etcetera. Thank you all for the 50+ Downloads thus far.
My apologies for the fourth post in a row, but I've finally finished the first non-beta release of this map!
It took much longer than I would've liked, and I hope people can finally play around and give some much needed feedback.
I found it challenging but I haven't finished it yet. Unfortunately, I downloaded the beta version of the map so I'll continue part 2 on the proper version.
By the way, it wont get many viewers, I usually get about 100 viewers after about a week or so. Could you add the video to the OP?
Alright, I'll keep that in mind.
Certainly. It's good publicity for the both of us.
Played through the map just now, and I loved it! Not to be a noob and not help any, but I didn't find any problems (which is a good thing :tongue.gif:).
This is my second adventure map today, the first of which required me to find 138 things (I only found 134, sadly :sad.gif: )
Anyhow, I only found 64 of the 70 Lapis Lazuli Ores, but I may go in another day and find those other 6 :tongue.gif:
I must remind you all, though, that there is a designated end to the map (in case you did not know). There is a mandatory puzzle prior to accessing it, but the once you complete it, the way to the Railway opens to you~
I might make it a bit more obvious in the future, but there's a hint or two dropped near that area.
There are definitely 70 pieces scattered, but I tried avoiding too many cryptic locations. They should, for the most part, be a clear reward for going a bit off the beaten path.
I'll confirm, though, that there are not any shoved faaaaaar up a waterfall, though. The only ones in a waterwall will make themself evident (usually lit very well).
Still though, I'll make sure to update the first post with your scores! I can't wait to see if a few people get together and get some Diamonds!
ok so I did the puzzle previously before i took the screenshot i posted, just didnt know that it open the door to the railway and whatnot. Kinda ran into a problem though. I seem to have 71 Lapis Lazuli lol. Not quite sure how this happened but it did :smile.gif:
Are you sure there are only 70? :ohmy.gif: I found a 71st! :biggrin.gif:
(Also you might want to put Atonement/UnholyHobo, because although we did the singleplayer version, we communicated (did the map at the same time). We only did this because when I started I was downloading BFBC2, so I decided to read the signs aloud and Hobo apparently became interested in it haha)
I would say he and I would get together and do it, but not today... Going to play some BC2 :tongue.gif: Perhaps in a couple days, though!
Edit: Oh I almost forgot... I had done the puzzle already, but had absolutely no idea what it caused... I forgot to check the railway again :tongue.gif:
I meant to say I forgot to check if that was open, but thanks for telling me that anyway... I might've gone through and checked every last bit lol :ohmy.gif:

As always, please comment and give constructive criticism! It's always welcome.
EDIT: I might have to throw in a quick v1.2 or something to make up for the nerf to fire spread. We'll see. :/

Ancient Waterways - Release v1.1
I've updated the first post with the Scoreboard details, new screenshots, and the like.
Much appreciated!
How'd you find the map itself (or are those comments within the video)?
EDIT: Removed some of the Beta testing text from the original post. My apologies for any confusion!
