The map effects are all done in Photoshop if you're wondering. Not the best example of my work, but I don't want anything too extravagant for the server.

The sky gives the environment a shady feeling, used "sky" biome while making this area, which gave the color to the sky. Normal landscape, different colored sky and the world looks more interesting, and looks good with texture pack i am using at the moment.

A previous screenshot of the W.I.P Tainted Lands; dated 09/01/2013.
The map's scale is 12,032x12,032 - currently - and will feature all of my server's role-play features, such as:
- Territories
- Races
- Quests
- Much, much more!
Once the majority of the landmasses are completed then I'll begin expanding the ocean, and it's borders. Further landmasses may develop over time, but for now I'll settle with the above!

I need some tips on how to get this map to look less boring. As you can see, I am shooting for realism in terms of biome placement (and how large they are). It just looks boring and needs more quality. I can't put my finger on it but I need some suggestions.

I'll answer for him! There's a tool in WP that raises them for you.
However, I prefer using custom brushes to raise a large hill, then right-click (whilst using) the dirt brush, and it paints the stone and caps in automatically.
