Instructions for Installation of a basic Language Pack in 10 Easy Steps
Be aware that some packs may have special installation instructions due to added features, this is just the installation instructions for the most simple of packs.
Windows
1. Close Minecraft
2. Hold Windows-button and press R
3. type %appdata%
4. go to .minecraft folder
5. go to bin folder
6. Open minecraft.jar with WinRAR
7. Delete the META-INF folder
8. Go to the lang folder
9. Drag and drop the files you have downloaded in there (2 .lang files)
10. Close WinRAR and run Minecraft, now in the language of your choice.
Mac
1. Close Minecraft
2. Go to "library"
3. "Application Support"
4. "minecraft"
5. "bin"
6. Then open "minecraft.jar" with "Archive Utility", rename the "minecraft.jar" to something else
7. Delete The META-INF Folder
8. Go to the lang folder
9. Drag and drop the files you downloaded (2 .lang files)
10. Go back to the "bin" folder and rename the new "minecraft" folder to "minecraft.jar"
11. Exit and play Minecraft!
Linux
1. Close Minecraft
2. Open places, Click on Computer, Go to file system..
3. Open up Home, USERNAME, Press CTRL+H
4. Scroll down a bit, Open up the .minecraft folder
5. Go into the bin folder
6. Open up minecraft.jar with 7zip or another archiving program.
7. Delete the META-INF folder in it, If not done already
8. Go to the lang folder
9. Drop the Files you have downloaded into that folder
10. Close 7zip, Run Minecraft
Tutorial to making Language Packs:
Locate minecraft.jar and unzip it with WinRAR. Go to the folder 'lang'. Inside you will find two files. Open these in a text editor of your choice, I suggest PSPad for Windows or TextWrangler for Macs to prevent incompatibilities between OS. Download links for these are located at the bottom of the thread.
You should now see something like this:

Edit the text after the equals sign to the language of your choice, for example, if I was creating a German language pack I would replace 'Done' with 'Fertig'.
However, Minecraft only accepts certain characters, these are shown below. If your pack contains characters outside this selection, you will have to follow the tutorial also found below until a modder makes an easier way to do it
