This was surprisingly hard to find, but it was completely worth it and has allowed me to play minecraft to its full again. I WILL SAY THIS ONCE, I AM NOT A TECH EXPERT THESE THINGS FIXED MY GAME BUT THEY MAY NOT FIX YOURS IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM, POST IT WITH ALL HASTE, I WILL TRY TO FIND A SOLUTION BUT I CANNOT GUARANTEE SUCCESS, THE REASON I AM ONLY SAYING THIS ONCE...its a long thing to type.
The main problem between minecraft and 64bit operating systems is that minecraft runs on java, java does not work well on a 64bit system, it crashes, blackscreens, works at points but not at others and generally makes life a living hell. After digging around on the forums for a while, determined to fix this I found severaly possible solutions, many of them will chip away at the problem a little, each making minecraft more playable, more to the point; one solution helped to really bridge the gap between java and my computer, i will give credit to each solution as it is posted.
1st solution, update your drivers:
This fix is simple, after playing on your computer for years you have probably forgotten to update your video card drivers, I don't know about ATI but Nvidia drivers do not automatically update, to fix this, simply follow this link, and follow the on site instructions:
http://www.nvidia.co...aspx?lang=en-us
this is a pretty basic one, and ive seen it all over the internet, i dont know who thought of it, i am only able to say that it is not mine, none of these are, but they all help.
2nd solution, fix the sound:
For those of you who have just bought minecraft, downloaded the executable, and gleefully created your own world only to find that you had no sound, then when trying to fix this found that you game crashed, then this is the fix for you.
http://www.minecraft...hp?f=35&t=38263
thx to Hamm123 for this, though im not sure if its originally his as ive seen it elsewhere.
3rd solution, if youve just installed your first mod and your game crashes:
DELETE THE META-INF FOLDER
then make sure you have all the required mods for the mod to work, most common required mod is modloader.
4th solution, linking java to your operating system:
follow these instructions, follow them well, and if you cant decipher them then leave a post and ill leave an edit of how to do it later:
(Copied from SDK's thread, a useful bug finder)
If you're having problems, download this http://tiny.cc/errortest_bat (windows only) and run it to see the error. This is a useful script that starts the game and will display the cause of any crash that occurs (its in script laungauge) so post the error report here if you need help on it.
This is the most common black screen error that people get, if when running the above bug finder you get this message:" 'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" then follow this link
http://www.ventmob.c...a-to-your-Path.
thx of course to MR_Okushama and _303 for the bug finder, and to jamioflan for putting this troubleshoot suggestion.
IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU, OR IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS THAT THIS DIDNT FIX, PLEASE LEAVE A REPLY, ONCE THIS POST IS FINISHED I HOPE TO HAVE A FULLY COMPREHENSIVE FIX FOR ALL BLACK SCREEN ISSUES.
