Medicine Craft




Minecraft is reaching new bounds. I may not be an indev player but even since alpha i never would have expected minecraft to have come so far. Notch himself told us that there was no possibility of there ever being cars and planes. Yet we proved we could. Just look at industrial craft and how far they have come. There are mods that will even make 256x256 possible but..... what was one of the worlds greatest creation. MEDICINE. I am a astounded that no one has made a medicine mod im gonna make one. This is my first mod so it will start out very simple but i have lots of plans for it. So over time this mod will grow.

*Thank you community for all the ideas. I have a lot of items to finish coding before i get to the complicating stuff. But over all the one i think has caught my attenion the most is a *sickness bar*. It will be a bar that slowly goes up over time and doing certain things will make it rise faster. It will be able to be brought down by using medicine. Keep giving ideas I read EVERY comment.

*If anyone knows the code to make a mob drop a different item if killed with a different weapon can someone tell me or if you use a item on a mob the item will change, like a bucket used on a cow

Sorry for the lack of updates Ive been busy camping and out of town so I couldn't work on coding. Gonna be off to Canada on trip so it may be while before update. Again Sorry

I have always wanted medicine in minecraft. I'm making a map in the nether in which your plane crashes and you have really low health. It would be cool to have syringes. Also for hospitals. Maybe you could use some cake properties for the first aid kit. You would place it in the same way, and for simplicity you could make it the same size/shape. And possibly you could make medical herbs spawn that you could collect and make into different things. These might regrow their leaves every couple of days. You might be able to contact Xie for his tomato/cotton plant programs for regrowing. Also, maybe you could make the medications not count as eating in Xie's hunger mod. At least for the stuff in syringes. (If you can't, just say they're nutritious :) Some medicine might take multiple steps to make. These are the symbols for this ENTIRE medicines section of this post. And  :Zombie:  means sickness. A worse disease/later in the disease has more " :Zombie: " Also, if possible, a player will be burned from touching fire and will damage the player until cured. Also, getting hurt may yield an injury that requires advanced medical treatment. Maybe getting falling damage will break a leg, slowing you down by 75% or so.

Now for some extracts. You need extracts to make more complex remedies. For this you need some more of that plant you can find. (By the way, healing leaves heal .5 hearts and decrease your sickness bar by 5 :Zombie: )

Brown Mushroom Extract:

Red Mushroom Extract:

Time to make some actual medicines. Use your syringe and some extracts to improve your herbal concoctions into into treatments for actual sickness. First, boil some mushroom broth into a disgusting, pile of herbs, known as a mushroom concoction. Don't eat this. But you can turn this into an injection used for curing more sickness. Just add some extracts and put it in a syringe.

Mushroom Injection (Heals 6 Hearts, and has a 35% chance of healing 40 :Zombie: -45 :Zombie: . Else 20 :Zombie: ):

Mushroom Paste (Heals 1.5 hearts, and provides 25% burn damage reduction for 10 minutes. Reduces  :Zombie:  bar increase rate by 10%. Reduces sickness bar by 5 :Zombie: .):

Simple burn medicine. If burns are implemented, these would reduce the damage done from these by 75%. You need more advanced medicine to treat burns. Also a good starting point for more advanced medicines. Now to get into more contemporary methods. Lets start with the Homeopathic Pills. You need your mushroom extractions, as well as some sugar and water:

Homeopathic Pills (Heals 3 Hearts, with a 50%-60% chance of reducing the sickness bar by 40 :Zombie: -50 :Zombie: , else 20 :Zombie: . Also you get the bucket back like with cake.):

Aloe (Heals 1.5 hearts. Gets rid of burns. Also provides 50% burn damage resistance for 3 minutes.)

Immune Booster (Heals .5 heart, with a 70% chance of decreasing the sickness bar by 10 :Zombie: , else 5 :Zombie: . It's main use is that it decreases the sickness bar increase by 50% You get the bowl back like buckets with cake.):

For the most advanced care, use the vaccine. It reduces the chance of getting sick by 80% (Perhaps until you die). If multiple diseases are added, then use multiple of these vaccine recipes. Use any one of these.

I just thought that it would be cool if you could have "NPC" doctors (Just like in MineColony, where a surgery bed, or some other thing is there spawn.) to do things like surgery that would help you in some way. I also think that cooked pork chops shouldn't heal so much, and same with mushroom soup. A menu for surgeries will be displayed under MEDICAL BED. Anyways, I'll get to the items.

You would need some kind of rubber/latex like material, like the one found in IndustrialCraft. Maybe you could use the same item, possibly ending issues between the two mods if this were added. If it would only ruin things, just replace all rubber with leather.

Love it. Anxiously awaiting more updates. Though I have to ask, what more will you do besides healing? Will disease be added? Non-heart damage/injuries? Perhaps eating uncooked has a chance dir some kind of infection?

Truth be told that is exactly what i plan on doing. im gonna make disease. It will be possible to get sick from eating raw food(fish & pork). Even make side effects from having too many drugs in a short period of time. I like the non-heart damage idea. Ill try to make a sickness bar. The higher it gets the more ill you become. You will than NEED medicine survive. It gets too high you get dizzy and slow down. The bar maxes out and you start getting hurt.

I was thinking maybe if you fall a long distance, you injure yourself and move at 1/2 speed until you perform surgery to repair the damage. Then move at 3/4 speed until it is fully healed.

It would be complicated but so awesome in the end. No more leaping from mountains and eating a porkchop to heal.

I have a little suggestion, I'm thinking as a disese, you could have the flu. But in Beta 1.5, there will be rain, so you it should only be caught when it's raining. I know it might be hard to code, but it will be a bit better.

Anyways, I like what you have done so far, keep it up!

Why would you catch the flu in the rain? Weather doesn't cause disease...

It will be hard but ill but it on the list of complicating things to do later on. So if you can wait it will get done.

I really like the idea so I will see what i can do but i have to wait for 1.5 to come out. Ill make it so if you are in the rain too long you could get sick. Ohh and when you mentioned the flu i got a cool idea... SWINE FLU . I will be something you could get from eating raw pig.

A colorful desert lizard. Passive, however it's poison is a valuable antibiotic. Doesn't drop anything upon death. Based on the Gila Monster.

If you aren't too sure how to make one, you can try looking at the code for Xie's Hunger Mod, and check how overtime the hunger changes. Of course, you might want to ask for his permission first :D

Saw your post in Xie's hunger thread and had to check this out. Must say it looks really good and with a lot of potential. Will keep an eye on this.

You could possibly get a team I'd love to help but i'm terrible, anyay teams can help update, make textures etc. this way you don't spend all day on your computer :iapprove:

This is a great idea but apart from the rough and rudimentary uses of medicine ( field medic basics ) what else are you hoping to achieve ? Will you introduce infections and poisons ? That would provide scope for additional medical advancement . Each hostile mob could have a chance of afflicting the PC with a different type of condition ; eg - Zombies - disease , spiders - poison , creepers - paralysis , skeleton archers - profuse bleeding , slimes - numbness . Each affliction would require a different medicine as a curative . ( um ,,,, can you tell I'm an old school rpg gamer ?? ) Also , herbalism . Different plants produce ( when processed correctly ) different curative items .
  This is a great mod and I'll be keenly watching what you do with it .

This mod will "grow" Into all what you said. But the problem is only time can truly tell. I have plans for all the things you said, but i would need help to learn to do those things(Which i am still trying to learn how to do complicated things like you mentioned).

Hey Doc ! My brain was fizzing with ideas whilst I was working today ( obviously a form of brain fever ) but I guess the thing that most interests me is establishing a level of advancement so the first scalpel may very well be a stick and a sharpened flint ( an arrows recipe without the feather ) . Wood bowls of fat and soap , herbal simples , bandages for binding wounds , poultices all are first stage developments . ( oh soap could be made with a bowl of fat , charcoal and water , maybe placed in a stone mold to "season" . ) Probably someone is saying Minecraft doesn't run like RL but we can take inspiration from RL to make MC more complex . Why I am keen about lower grade items is to try an find reasons to stay in the " stone age " for longer than is usually considered necessary . If a range of useful and easily created items can be crafted at an early stage of the game then we can ( should we want to ) slowly ascend to greater levels of technology at our own pace and not to take advantage of the more sophisticated recipes . Medicines can go through levels of refinement as the PC level of technology increases . So too would the items used to manufacture medicines . Crikey , I better stop there ! LOL ! I worked for several years for a small company that produced "old fashioned " herbal remedies which is why your ideas interested me . Cheers Doc !
