This mod simply displays what biome you're standing in under your coordinated and the map seed on the debug info screen (F3).
Thanks to oGhosteh for a cool video demonstrating this mod:
Really only a single line of code change, this is based on part of Risugami's Sign Tags mod.
Download (1.0.0) This displays the name of the biome you're currently standing in under the seed on the debug screen (F3). If you'd instead like to see the biome name displayed in the top left corner of the screen all the time, download this version instead: Download (1.0.0, displayed all the time)
This mod has no dependencies. So, replace the appropriate .class file in your minecraft.jar with the modified version. Delete META-INF if Minecraft blackscreens or throws an exception immediately on starting. And have fun!
I didn't actually program much of anything. Looking at the function I'm using to get the name of the biome for the player's current coordinates, which is already a part of Minecraft, it will return one of: Rainforest, Swampland, Seasonal Forest, Forest, Savanna, Shrubland, Taiga, Desert, Plains, Ice Desert, Tundra, or Hell. I just made it display that information.

...Really? What's the difference between an 'Ice Desert' and a 'Tundra'?
And isn't there supposed to be a 'Woods' biome as well?

Haven't found an Ice Desert in my single player world yet but I *think* it's supposed to be a desert but with snow cover. Then Tundra is dirt & grass with snow but few trees, and Taiga is full of pine trees.
*shrug* I used the Minecraft Coder Pack to decompile the game and make my change, at the very least there's no instance of the word "Woods" I can find. Don't know...
Edit: Based on this thread and looking at the code myself although "Ice Desert" is mentioned in a few places it doesn't seem possible for one to be generated.
That's odd just yesterday i said one of these would be very helpful, and now i found these diamonds to you sir!
Fixed your mistakes. Grammar Nazi, can't help it.
Close enough, but you changed the original message. The original message was intended to be "That's odd... just yesterday I said one of these would be very helpful, and now I found this! Diamonds to you, sir!"

You know, it occurs to me that the French are, in general, a highly melancholy people. On every street they rue something.
Thank you so much for this, 31stCenturyMatt! It's simple, straight to the point and just what I wanted!
...And as a bonus, a mini-game!

It should be: "That's odd... Only yesterday I said one of these would be very helpful, and now I find this! Diamonds to you, sir!"
Normally I ignore spelling and grammar errors, but the same statement edited twice (now thrice)? How refined will this statement get?

Wow I love mods like this, doesn't change the game just enhances it. Thank you.
Edit: Well I did what you said to do I just added the tl.class into the minecraft.jar and it seems to have an error? I have no other mod installed besides this one.
Here is the error report:

Is the Biomes entry on the wiki out of date?
