While this Snapshot may seem to be a bit feature-light, Mojang has been pouring in some hard hours into the plugin API, which isn't too far off on the horizon now! While a good bit of the API is written, it is unstable enough to warrant some extra work before being tested. Don't worry though, it won't be long now! In the meantime, enjoy some sweet new worldgen features, and a potload of bugfixes!

FEATURES:
  • New highly customisable terrain generation! (Create new world -> “World Type: Customized”)
  • New customisable world borders! Check out the /worldborder command.
  • Lots of bug fixes, performance gains and code cleaning-upper-izing.
  • ???
Please report any and all bugs you find in Minecraft to bugs.mojang.com. If nobody reports a bug, they can’t fix it!

To get snapshots, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots” and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the dropdown at the bottom left corner of the launcher. Back up your world first or run the game on in a different folder (See the “new profile” dialog).

Snapshots can corrupt your world, please backup and/or run them in a different folder from your main worlds.

Meh.  While the new terrain generation is certainly cool, it doesn't really contribute much to a serious game of survival.  Nothing new to build or collect.

There is one thing I'd like added to the Terrain Generation.  A new Biome.

Simply put as "Island"

Would make for great Survival Island map creation if you could generate an ocean world with only one or a handful of small islands populating the map.

Minecraft is not only survival, not all updates or new features has to be intended to expand survival. It's very useful to creative mode players.

Hey look, I guess they were adding those terrain sliders to this snapshot after all. Glad to see a few other improvements, such as those bug fixes and whatnot, although it seems to be these performance gains have no effect for me; but whatever, so long as it helps everyone else. Now all we have to do is wait for the community to complain about it now that they got those terrain sliders, but aren't happy about for some reason.
