So, basically the title says it all. I have a really old computer that I have really just added parts onto, currently I have Windows 8 (x86), 2GB RAM DDR3 (ordered more), an NVIDIA 9800 GT, and a lowlyIntel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.06GHz. So, I have never replaced a processor, and I am sure that not all types of processors would fit, so I would like a few suggestions on what to get. I currently have ~100 dollars to spend, so keep that in mind please. Any help guys?
You will need a new MOBO (motherboard) if anything it would be best to strip out the case and use it to build a new computer. I use a ASUS Sabertooth 990FX with a AMD FX-8350 processor.
Since your motherboard uses an LGA 775 socket, you basically have a choice between either a Core 2 Duo or a Core 2 Quad for a processor. Each of these has a high cost to performance ratio though due to how outdated they are. I would suggest saving up some more money and getting a new processor as well as a new motherboard. You will save money in the long run since you won't have to upgrade processors as many times.

Nobody's perfect, so neither is Hannah Montana Linux, but it's pretty great.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.
