I am a developer for a living (Not java but I shouldn't have an issue picking it up. I went though a couple basic Java series. ).
I am looking for some up to date tutorials for 1.7.x that don't require forge and work on a server. Just the basics really. I have a family server for friends and family and just have a couple simple ideas that I would like to implement on a 1.7.8 server. Nothing complex really and would really like to learn.
Thanks, I guess I'll look at forge APIs. Was just kind of hoping I could create a plugin without relying on other things to update when new minecraft versions release.
Well Forge is pretty much used for every mod so you can't get around that. Also all mods you write for Client using Forge are also Server side. Same .jar file, works.
If you want to write a plugn I suggest Bukkit.
I suppose you're right. I may just look at bukkit, it appears their latest at this point is for 1.7.8 (dev build). Also it wouldn't require players to install anything.

If anyone knows of any please let me know?
