Just as the subject says, anyone think lightning will have an item ID?
I know you can't... Harvest? lightning in any normal (without cheating) way,
But What I'm thinking is being OP on the server i play on... having lightning to kill people who break a rule would be epic xD
no, rain won't be an "item" (with an ID), nor did/will snow, but Snow on the ground has an item ID. If snow (on the ground) is the after effect of snowing, then lightning is the after effect of raining, amirite?

Snow and rain are just a .png file.
Lightning may be the same way, just went it is displayed it causes a flash, thunder and some fire to be created.

None of you guys are really right but you all have valid points. Here is the truth about what you where talking about.
Rain (Weather) = PNG Image = ID: None
Snow (Weather) = PNG Image = ID: None
Snow (Layer) = Block = ID: 78
Lightning = Entity = ID: Unknown
All Entities have an ID, what are they you ask? Well Entities are pretty much anything in Minecraft that isn't a block that you interact with, and nearly all of them move in some way. This includes;
- Dropped Item
- Experience Orb
- Shot Arrow
- Thrown Snowball
- Thrown Egg
- Ghast Fireball
- Blaze Fireball
- Thrown Ender Pearl
- Thrown Eye Of Ender
- Thrown Splash Potion
- Fishing Rod Bobber
- Falling Sand
- Falling Gravel
- Falling Enderdragon Egg
- Primed TNT
- Boat
- Minecart
- Painting
- Lightning
- Ender Crystal
- Mob
- The Player (You)
Yes, Lightning is one of them, but unfortunately, it one of the few Entities along with Paintings that Minecraft Wiki or any other sites I've seen could find the ID of. Why is this unfortunate? Because the newly added Spawn Eggs allow you to use Inventory Editors to change what that spawn! Using the Entity IDs you can spawn nearly anything (the TNT one is my favorite because it's weird and blows up immediately!)! So I was thinking what if you could spawn Lightning? That would be really fun for your server ideas. And It wouldn't matter with Painting anyway, because it would, like certain other Entities that require additional information because their are several kinds (Dropped Items and Thrown Splash Potions) crash the game. I hope this helped
. I'l continue my research on the ID for Lightning, and remember it's an Entity not an Item!
