The server is ready to go! I've made all the necessary adjustments with minetweaker to include thaumcraft, as well as I've removed some recipes that either break the progression or simply aren't necessary.
As this is my first topic I've ever made on the forums, here's a bit of back story for my making of the server (if you care):
I've been faithfully playing an excellent mod called Minefantasy by the modmaker AnonymousProductions (forum post) for quite some time now and have always wanted to play it with other minecrafters. The mod features in my opinion the best medieval additions to minecraft, and some of the greatest gameplay changes I've seen in general. Paired with other mods like battlegear, it makes for a perfect middle aged experience.
However despite the detail and ingenuity of the mod, it's seen relatively little attention due to the delay in updating to 1.6.4. But now it's updated! And the mod only gets better when it's played with others. Hence, I hope to not only spread word of this incredible mod, but also enjoy it myself with some other mature and somewhat serious players.
Granted, most mods tend to build upon each other, so I've considered a few mods I feel would add to the medieval and fantasy theme of the server.
At the moment, I will not be able to run the server 24/7 since I will be hosting it myself. But if enough people are interested, or if requested by enough people, I will consider investing in having the server hosted cheaply
installation and the IP to connect are included in the zip file, which you must extract to install. Make sure you have a clean .minecraft to begin with, meaning an empty mods and config folder if you already use forge.
Server details:
The server will be primarily based around Minefantasy and medieval themes in general. People will likely work together initially as it will be a survival server (but not hardcore death), but if more people begin to join factions will likely develop on their own. My hope is that eventually people will have built large enough groups that fortresses could be made and sieged with Minefantasy's impressive collection of armors and weaponry (including bows, crossbows, two handed weapons, shields and more).
Tentative rules:
- I don't want to ban people, but I will if they are immature or are a detriment to the server as a whole.
- I intend for the mod to be as medieval as possible, so PVP will be allowed, but keep in mind that known murders are likely to become outcasts and killed themselves on sight by civilized folk. In fact, my hope is that outcasts will be willing to band together as raiders to effectively oppose ordered civilizations.
- I've decided that greifing and stealing will not be allowed, mostly because it will be too easy for one person to go rampaging around with some flint and steel. The only time such things will be possible is when a raid is in progress, which will require an equal number of people from each faction present to properly defend themselves. Hence, blatant greifers and thieves will be banned.
Some things to consider:
-The server will fully utilize minefantasy, including many of the hardcore crafting features (notably the removal of the vanilla furnace). Hence it is highly advised that one familiarize them self with the minefantasy mod, particularly the early primitive tier. Not only is there a highly detailed PDF included in the Minefantasy mod, but a wiki is under develeopment here. However I suggest reading the PDF and using the crafting recipes included with the mod until the wiki is fully updated.
-The listed mods I have included are not generally meant for players with weaker computers (particularly thaumcraft, Witchery and Ars Magica). This server is meant for mature players who are genuinely interested in using complicated mods that greatly improve minecraft, and hence have likely invested in a decent computer to play it with.
- This server will not support Bukkit plugins. But if there are equivalent mods that could be implemented that would be beneficial, feel free to suggest them.
-Slabcraft and Staircraft seem like reasonable additions since they'll improve building.
-Secret rooms is a good one too, and I'll probably add it with the torch lever mod.
-Is the statue mod the one by Ivorius? I was going to include his middle age mod, but it got merged into his Ye Gammol Chattel mod for 1.7.2 as well as the statues mod as far as I know so I can't actually find it.
-Microblocks, I've played with the mod before but didn't really use it that much honestly, so I don't know if I'll include it.
-Somnia would be an interesting addition, but I don't know how exactly it would work in multiplayer, since I imagine most players would have to be going to sleep for it to work, whereas I myself usually do stuff during minecraft nights.
Regardless, thanks for the suggestions, I'll change the list soon!
Edit: Also I'm only concerned whether people will contribute the the server, regardless of their means of Minecrafting.
In my mod pack/server, I make use of minetweaker to remove the recipes of anything that doesn't fit the fantasy theme, like cardboard from better storage. I suggest you do the same. You might even be able change thaumcraft recipes from using vanilla tools to minefantasy tools, because currently you won't be able to make the deconstruction table (or whatever it's called) or the arcane bore.
Yeah I think that's a great idea, there's a few recipies in mo creatures that I'd like to remove, as well as some I'd like to change in general if possible. Thanks for that mangoose, and your server's been awesome too btw.
Well with Mangoose restarting his server and due to the chunk corruption of my place in the world I'll start getting this server together for real. And I like the look of the carpenters blocks, I think I'll likely include this and replace slabcraft/staircraft. And as Blackjar said this will render secret rooms obsolete, however I might include torchlevers just because I like some of the additions.
The server is up and the modpack is finished! You can get the modpack here. The IP to connect is included in the modpack. Hopefully the installation isn't too awkward for people, it really just requires a few extra steps since mo creatures can't be included in modpacks. If you can't connect or if something goes wrong, please ask!
Loving the sound of this server this far! I've been looking for a good one for a little while now, since the old towny I used to play on was blown up(literally).
Now if only I wasn't waiting for class to start, and have an 8 page paper analyzing an aspect of Dante's Inferno due tomorrow, I'd download/install and hop on! (And pray my laptop can handle it. But I think I'll be good,I used to play with 70+ on my own xP)
I would also recommend the mod Simply Horses if it was updated from 1.5.2, but alas it's not.
Yeah I checked out Ancient Warfare, while I like all the siege constructs and I think they'd be a great addition, I don't like all the automated farms and NPCs that are added as well. So if it did get implemented into the server, I would likely remove most of the npcs if possible, since not only would they slow down the server considerably, I'm not too akin to a bunch of mindless computers roaming around. I'd rather play with actual people.
That being said though, the siege engines are very good, and perhaps if people just agreed to not use the NPCs I would consider adding it (since I've already tested it with my modpack).
Alright! So the server's been going well, hopefully more people will join but so far those who have like the challenge and the feel so far.
And since the server is pretty small at the moment, I'll be updating as often as possible as more mods are requested and considered. So far, the following mods are in consideration:
- Decocraft, though many decorations will likely be removed, there are many that will fit perfectly into the medieval feel.
-Morpheous, I haven't tried this, but it seems like a good mod to use since half the time people want to sleep and half are busy and don't want to.
-Ancient Warfare, the siege engines are obviously fitting for a medieval mod, and I know everyone who's played so far would like to shoot ogres with tower mounted balistas.
