I am starting a project that will rely on the skin editors parts picker.  This will allow you to build a skin from a library of parts.  I would like to get submissions from people to help expand this library.  Or just ideas as to what it should have in it.

The premise:
You will load your base skin.  This will be a bald figure with a set skin tone and (hopefully race, human, elf, dwarf).  Then from there you will be able to choose the hair, clothing and accessories.  This will enable players to have a somewhat unique skin without requesting specifics from pixel artists.  Base skins might have a set of expressions to choose from as well.

My current skin was made using this method:

The pants, boots, shirt, tunic, and belt are all individual parts layered on top of each other.

Submissions:
I am not using flat color skins so I will retain the right to modify skins so they will flow with the rest of the parts/project.
These are going to be medieval/fantasy skins so anything that fits that category will do.
Submitting entire skins will be okay as I can usually take them apart to get the pieces
Credit will be given if your parts are used
Base skins can be submitted.  These should be un-clothed but wearing some sort of undergarment and preferably bald.
Skins tones should be as realistic as possible, excluding fantasy bits (maybe somebody want's to submit and orc)
I am using the default model for a base comparison so it may help to do the same.

Ideas:
Submitting ideas will give me inspiration of what parts I need to add to the library.  These could be specific parts or just general suggestions

What makes a dwarf a dwarf and not just a hairy man?
What is the best way to distinguish male from female in minecraft in their base form?

This is an interesting project, and I wish you luck!

One thing I may suggest is to try out my skinning method if you want to have a simple, effective, and universal flow to each item.

Also, I wouldn't mind trying to help you out with this, if you'd like other people to help on the project and create parts.

I am specifically avoiding adding shadows because of the lighting dynamics of minecraft.  The sun moves and torches will be in front and below you.  If the light source is below you it makes no sense to have shadows cast by the head on the torso.  I have my own methods to creating depth and texture to clothing but I will definitely give your method a shot and see what it produces.

This is not something that I will be able to do over night and I hope to continue to expand and grow the library with my creations and submissions of others.

Any skins and parts you are willing to donate to the project would great.

The problem with this is that Minecraft shades the models by-object, not by-face. While it may not look perfect under all circumstances, I feel it's a fair trade-off for it to look good in /most/ circumstances. As long as there's not directional lighting (that's not from straight above [like from a torch]), the shadows work.

Even as the sun sets or rises, shadows don't change in Minecraft, even on the by-face world shadows. They're always straight down. It would be awesome if the lighting was more dynamic, yes, but right now it's mostly straight-down until you start moving underground, or during the night, when torches are needed for visibility.

This is a fantastic idea! As far as the problem of distinguishing male and female in base form, the undergarments would make distinguishing them easy, the male would have only boxer like undergarments and the female would obviously have a bra or cloth like thing covering their chests, also adding make up around the eyes is good for telling male from female

Added more detail to iron leggings and sleeves as well as half leggings and sleeves.  These half peices are open in the backs so they are good for making lighter armored characters.

What is the skin color that's used for the original Steve? I'm editing a skin and every time I try to match the skin tone, it comes out wrong. Please help, thanks
