This mod adds scaffolding, which acts like, well, scaffolding. It can be crafted like this:



You get 8 of them for slightly more than one log (1.125 logs to be precise), and they break in one click, like torches.
They look this when placed:




I also added a wrench, for easy destruction of scaffold blocks. Crafted like so:



When you right click on a scaffold with a wrench, all the connected scaffolding blocks will break. For example, the staircase-thing above would be destroyed in one click. However, it doesn't destroy diagonally, so in the picture below, clicking any blocks in the plus would destroy the whole thing, but the x on the right would need to be destroyed one block at a time (which is still pretty fast, as scaffolding breaks at the same speed as torches and reeds.)





The point of scaffolding is to make awesome aerial structures easy to build, with no need for unsightly, hard-to-remove, and slightly costly dirt scaffolding. For example, it would probably have taken twice as long to build the structure below without scaffolding as with it, because scaffolding is much easier to get and remove than something like dirt (even with a diamond shovel!).



There are also iron scaffolds, crafted like this, which are more permanent.



They make it harder to self-grief, because the wrench does not auto-break them. They break at the same rate as dirt, and almost instantly when hit with the wrench.





Also, scaffolding takes on the full block texture if there is nothing above it.

Installation:
First, download it here.

After installing the newest version of ModLoader, install the files in the zip in the same way that you installed the ModLoader files.

Note, the ids are 98, 99 and 2005.

Very nice mod. That's thinking outside the box right there.

I have a suggestion: if you make a tower of the scaffhold, then use the wrench, the whole thing would vanish, and you'd fall to your death. You should make a low-power wrench, that only removes three blocks (or however many the safe fall distance would be).

Just holding down left click will get you safely down the tower (almost, you take about 1 heart for every 10 blocks down cuz you go just a bit too fast, ill change it in the next version.

Awesome man. I haven't actually used it to build anything but i've tested it a little and it seems to work perfectly. I'd like it if they caught on fire though. Maybe 2 recipes. one of which catches fire and uses the current and then another that doesn't catch fire and uses 1 iron in the middle and still but makes 16. Be even better if you could back craft them like iron and gold blocks to get back all the iron you spent on your 3000 fireproof scaffolding parts needed for your lavatower

Maybe you should rename the ItemWrench.class because it is the same name as the wrench in IndustrialCraft. Or you could find a way to merge the two wrenches so the same wrench works in both.

Good job on this. Don't think much of that wrench sprite, but since it's not yours I'll let you off. Hehe
Seeing as it LOOKS like it should be climbable, maybe it should be, to make building high easier. I see no point in having to add ladders to each block... Seeing as this is a construction block it makes sense.
Something occurs to me.. does scaffolding burn?
Did you create the block from scratch or base in on another block? The ladders and torch issue makes me suspect it may have been glass, or indeed a non-collision block like reeds of flowers.

If you'd like some help on the delayed breaking, it seems a method like I used in Terraformer (only a lot more specific) might work well and I'd be glad to pitch in.

How about a more permanent scaffold made of iron that would work as the sub-structure of trestle-bridges , towers , power lines ( Used in Industrial Craft ) even raised Railways . Its such a simple and awesome idea . Love it !

And yes, it would be a great Idea if you could make them climbable, like ladders on each side of the block, To get down safely and get up without building another tower, or the same tower again.

Wow! Tons of replies! Anyway, the idea of iron scaffolding is great, and although I havent checked if the scaffolding burns but it should. Also, the permanent scaffolding is also a great idea, I was thinking to make it so that the iron scaffolds are destroyed at the same speed as dirt, maybe a little faster because it is scaffolding after all, and wielding the wrench would let you break it at dirtWithADiamondShovel speed, but I hesitate to add the instabreak for the iron because if you make permanent structures out of it, it would be all too easy too selfgrief, and we wouldn't want that to happen. The climbable element of it, it might ruin the point of ladders, because wood scaffolding is much less resource-intensive, so what would be the point of ladders? Although, it would be really easy to accidentally destroy it, and it would look horrendous as a ladder, so maybe. If you fans manage to convince me, I'll look into it. Also

So! If it was TL, and you DR it, the next update will probably add iron scaffolds, which are more permanent and don't burn, will rename the itemwrench and will probably add the delayed breaking I mentioned in the original post. Also, feel free to offer a better texture for the wrench and a support banner, because I personally happen to be terrible at making pics.
