Well... Don't get cross at me if this doesn't work - but through this I have gained 37 wolves!

Step 1. Make an enclosure in a forest. Make it pretty big (Mabye 30 by 50) I fenced mine off with fences.

Step 2. Put in a few saplings and [Important] Lots of torches. [\Important]  This meant mobs that wolves like to eat will spawn at night. (Edit: As pointed out, saplings will, if grown make less spaces for the wolves to spawn... But they look pweeeety!)

Step 3. Decorate, I put in a small pond.

Step 4. Make it so that it is a one way thing to get into the fences. Kind of like:

[]  :grass:  :|:  []
:grass:  :grass:  :|:  []

Where stick is a fence.

Step 5. ???

Step 6. Profit.

I don't know whether this actually works and I am sorry if it doesn't work for you, but the wolves are "rare" and seven in one spot seems to say this works :D. I posted this for the people who cannot get wolves!

And if it doesn't work, at least you will have a nice garden :D.

Edit:

If my number two ever came out wrapped in paper with hot sauce, I would probably go to the doctor.

This makes sense. A well-lit grassy area at night will spawn most of the passive mobs.

Edit: Decoration isn't important :P

No, wolves will only spawn in a forrest biome, not a man made forrest D:

And I meant the torches are important, but I surpose that if you have no decoration the wolves might be sad and not come :o

Yes... I had 17 wolves. Now the glitches have thinned them down to 10. Its like that darwin thing, the tough intelligent wolves survived and the dumb ones diddn't :)

I don't think any mob is biome-specific. Do you have a link that says otherwise?

This is basically just a written down version of Docm and Etho's method.

TzL35a5HR_I

Although I'm not quite sure why you recommended putting down Saplings. That reduces the amount of blocks they have to spawn on

'Caus saplings sure look pweeeety! And then you will attract "classy" wolves who will wonder around admiring the scenery!

The only reason that I respond more than once to your topic is that I left it in a tab when I left my computer.

Good job resurrecting the page. Pfft.
I don't always die with full diamond armor, but when I do, it's because I fell off a cliff.

I'm lucky in my world; wolves spawn naturally in the biome I'm in.
