Well you don't really give enough information to help you out, so I'll take this step by step. What setup do you currently have computer wise. Are these computers on the same network or are they separated like in different houses? Please explain your situation.

First thing, I join the server.
Then, when my brother joins the server, it kicks me out saying that "I've been logged in somewhere else" (something like that).
This is for the latest version of Minecraft, 1.017_02. And i'm using the latest Minecraft_Server.
Thanks

As for being kicked out, it's because two people cannot login at the same time. Last person that logged in will be notified that another user is using that login info and be removed from the game.
You have one of two options.
1. Buy another copy of the game. Or,
2. Play the game in offline mode on the same network/router/lan.

Well hamachi is a program that allows two or more users to access the same LAN network.
I'm trying to do the second option, where my brother and me are both signing in offline. I set up the server, he joins it, and I get kicked out because (i think) we have the same name, which is "Player".

Through an outside network? So one of you is connecting from outside the LAN?

Connect and be online with both people. Use hamachi when hosting the server, naturally have the person join your network. Have him connect to your server via the 5.whatever hamachi IP.
Doesn't matter if you disconnect from the internet at that point.

The best thing to do in this situation, (and probably the only) way to get past this, is... actually here, look at my step by step list.
1)If using Minecraft_server.exe, then you need to open the server.properties that is in the same folder/directory as the exe file. When it asks what you want to open server.properties with, you want to use Notepad
2) Set online-mode to false by deleting the true text next it, and placing false in it's place. There are other properties that you can set in here, but im only here to help with lan.
3) MAKE SURE YOU ARE DISCONNECTED FROM THE INTERNET COMPLETELY, but still be hooked up computer-to-computer over the T1/LAN connection. This prevents authentication from happening, causing one person to leave if using the same account.
4) Now for your ip address. This is how you get your ip address offline. Hit you startup icon, and then hit Run... (if your on XP), but for windows 7, you have to hit startup, and the search program files for cmd.exe. when you have Run.. open on XP, type in cmd.exe in the line and hit run. This is the DOS side of the computer (from what i've seen/heard)
5) It should have opened up a black box, containing stuff that should include your pcuser name. Dont click anywhere, but make sure the window is the active one, and type this in:
ipconfig
This will pop up your ip address, subnet gateway, and something else (i forgot). write down you IP Address, and then type that in (while offline) into your Minecraft Multiplayer server join line. It should work then.
WARNING: Since you may be running the server on the same computer as the minecraft client, there may be highly noticable visual lag. I honestly dont like it... but overall it works fine. HAVE FUN!
Oh yeah, we should see if we can get Notch to create a legit LAN option in the minecraft game, wouldn't it be amazing?!??!

Sup, I am angery. Furious.
Im joking.
Anyways got a problem with memory stuff (not the name thing)... I can get everything to work, but the thing it, it chews up my resources so bad, I get lag worse than ever thought possible. It is playable, but lags too much to be playable for over 10 seconds... PLEASE, if you know a way to change this up, and still play LAN, let me know. I would LOVE to play offline with a friend, of whom has an account anyways.
Solutions I have tried:
1)Using Gamebooster
2)Changing processes priorities to different levels (worked somewhat but didnt fix the problem overall)
3)Used Hamachi... and gave up
With the current lag i have in LAN right now, I am going to
EDIT:
If you need more information on my dilema, just ask and I will try to make a more sane post
