I cannot confirm, but I seem to recall Wil Wheaton implying he played.
And I think Randall Munroe of xkdc.com has kind of implied he plays it.

Kristian Nairn plays Minecraft, he was talking about it when he was on the Yogscast's podcast. He's Hodor in the TV series Game of Thrones, he doesn't play a major role but when you take into account that Game of Thrones has over a million viewers each week I think it justifies considering him a famous person.

I am dissapoint that know one knows that Deadmau5 plays minecraft, more people that don't even know who he is. He is a very famous DJ and he has his own server: Mau5ville.com. there's no while list and it's a complete freebuild

Also, deadmau5 is like the only "famous" person that I know that plays minecraft. Can you consider valve guys "famous"?
