Doing a massive map (12k by 14k), and i'm using a mix of your trees and normal Minecraft trees (via populate tool) to get different types of forest. I'm also using the populate tool for swamps + jungles.
However, none of the areas where I had used the populate tool were populated. No jungle, or swamp, or even normal trees. I didn't populate an area that was too high either.
I don't know why that would happen. I don't think it's because of the size of the map. Minecraft only loads the chunks around your position, it makes no difference how many more chunks there are, the map could be huge and it should not influence the loading and populating process.
It's always possible that there is a bug in WorldPainter of course, I've fixed enough of them in the last few weeks, but I'm not currently aware of any that would affect this and I even just retested it to double-check and it seems to work correctly as far as I can tell.
The only thing I can think of is that perhaps you forgot to use the Populate layer, or to enable "allow Minecraft to populate the entire terrain"? Is that possible? If that's not it, could you send me the .world file so I can investigate?
I didn't have the "Allow Minecraft to populate entire terrain" on because some areas of my map are above the height which causes the 'Saving Chunks' problem. If that has been fixed I will try it with the option on and see if it works.
That's a Minecraft bug, so as long as there is no new version of Minecraft it can't have been fixed, although I am about to post a mod which will fix it also.
I used the populate tool, is there something else you have to turn on to enable it then?
No, it should just work. As long as you see green squares appear, those chunks will be populated by Minecraft according to the biomes when the map is loaded.
Hi Cap'n Chaos, just wanted to say really digging the new changes you've made!
I've uploaded a screenshot of my WIP to the showcase thread, so have a look
I've created a mod for the vanilla Minecraft 1.2.3 client and server to fix the crash bug with terrain that is too high and/or bedrock walls. Standard mod installation rules apply: open the jar file, copy the class file into it and (for the client only!) remove the META-INF folder.
Don't forget to keep a copy of the original, unmodded minecraft.jar around for WorldPainter!
Note that to make multiplayer work you only need the server mod; players don't have to mod their clients to play on the modded server.
Note also that this is completely unsupported! I especially can't help with combining this with other mods. It will very probably break other mods which modify the same files. Use at your own risk, and don't ask me any questions about installing mods, etc.. Google is your friend!
Client
Copy this file to minecraft.jar and don't forget to remove the META-INF folder: wz.class
Server
Copy this file to minecraft_server.jar. Do not remove the META-INF folder: gd.class
I haven posted here in a while, but what exactly does the custom biomes option do?
It allows you to customise the biomes by painting them onto the map manually. Set the biome scheme to "custom biomes" and then click on the Biomes layer button to paint on the biomes. When you do a biome palette will appear on which you can select the biome you want to paint (hover your mouse over the buttons to see exactly which biomes they are).
Here is an idea to add. Minecraft biomes coding is now editable outside for the first time so you could make a biome painter tool. I This would be very help full to people. thanks!Never mind you awesome weasel you. You already did that! stupid me!
Will the mon always be needed when using maps with the bedrock wall? Or is it one time use load map and be done?
That's a good question. I think that as long as you take care to visit the entire wall in-game, as well as any other high places which might be affected, so every nearby chunk is populated, it's possible you wouldn't need the mod any more afterwards.
But the bug is not actually in the populating code, it's in a general piece of code so it is possible that there are other places, not having to do with populating chunks, which invoke the same code and might still be affected. I would test it out thoroughly.
Okay I loaded that class file into a fresh 1.2.3 jar, removed meta bla bla.. and still get the saving chunks error
Perhaps you're being hit with a different bug. It's also possible that the map has been corrupted by Minecraft crashing while trying to populate it. Can you send me that map?
Okay here it is http://www.mediafire...17cx2y1gxmd5h2x
Gods I hope I'm not losing this map, I put so much time in it @.x I had just finished the nether too... I tell you getting world edit to copy over a netherstronghold ith out crashing mc was such a pain. >.<
btw...
Where did the biome button go? Restared a few times thinking I botched something but it... it's gone once I pick custom biomes.
wish the brushes had changable sizes, besides that, this generator is a godsend!! thanks :Dwish the brushes had changable sizes, besides that, this generator is a godsend!! thanks
Very cool map! I'm a bit confused though. This map is not 256 high at all! It's a Minecraft 1.1 map that has been converted to Anvil, so it only uses the lower 128 blocks. The upper half is just empty. Why did you think you were affected by a bug which has to do with terrain being near the 255 limit? Also, it must have been a long time ago since WorldPainter last had anything to do with this map, as it doesn't support creating or editing vertically mirrored worlds like this at all.
As I suspected you are being hit with a different (though similar) bug. It is a bug in the Anvil conversion, which didn't convert the map correctly. Happily, according to http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Known_bugs/Version_1.2.3#Crashing.2FSystem it will be fixed in the next release! (It's the seventh bug down, titled "Server crashes regularly in vanilla 1.2.3").
I'm currently creating a map for a server and the underground is kinda weird.
We found no "minecraft like" caves , faults or abandonned mines (edit : and no strongholds aswell even if the eyes of ender go to something i mean go to nothing :s )
Is there any fix to that? (sorry if the question was already asked i didn't saw it thro the 119 pages)
As you suspect, this question has been asked and answered several times already. Underground tunnels, ravines, abandoned mines, strongholds, etc. are generated by Minecraft when it generates new land, so they do not exist in WorldPainter-generated maps since that land has not been generated by Minecraft. If you want structures like that you will have to build them yourself, or use a mod such as the Terrain Control mod, or copy them from existing maps using tools such as MCEdit.
I do plan on adding functionality like this to WorldPainter at some point though, though it won't be any time soon.

It's a redraw bug. For some bizarre reason it only shows up if you move the mouse over the editor window.
