A link to a compact Duel Output Cobblestone Generator I constructed in my current /Alpha save. Testing to see if there would be any community interest in my making a tutorial for it.
Yeah, but "Infinite Forge" sounds so much better than the "Infinite Cobblestone Generator." Besides, the official in-game name of the smelter is the "Furnace," not forge, so I feel justified in inventing something and calling it a forge.
Cool, but ultimately pointless, as cobblestone is probably the most abundant non-renewable (normally) resource. Still, impressively designed, good look to it.
It's fast enough that it caps out the speed of a stone pickax once you get the timing right. For any higher tier pick you'd probably want to make the forge out of something stronger than regular stone, possibly furnaces or obsidian, so that you don't accidentally chew through the material behind the stone output. Higher tier picks probably wouldn't be all that much faster anyhow, since you still have to wait for the stone to refill, so it's probably best not to waste the rarer picks on something like this, especially since all you'll ever get out of it is more cobblestone.
Still, it's nice for creating massive structures when you don't want to have to take the time to go all the way down into your mine and drag all the materials back out again, since you can stick one right on the ground floor of your base.
I like it. Which reminds me, I should use cobblestone generators to help with my massive stone pyramids.
I managed to make strip mining for stone a bit more fun by carving out temples as I do it, but it still gets a bit old after a while. Now if only I could find a way to make shoveling out mountains of dirt more fun....
Yep, I only use cobble generators if for some reason I dont want to scar the land with strip mining.
I just strip mine a large area for cobble/gems when there's no natural cave entrances around, and when i'm done I cover it with 4-5 layers of dirt and just build on top of it

Probably more useful in a server setting since you have more competition for mining space.

My basement has trees and lava in it, WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?

just watch that first step. (no really, i'd forget and dig down to my death!)
Many deaths spawned a great ladder placement plan for me, Corvak.
I have a 14x14 mine right now, and one face has a single groove cut into it where I place the ladder. So instead of just sliding down the edge, I have protection from 3 sides, and I could even add a glass wall or something to the 4th.
I'll see if i can get a good pic

So do you think you'll make a tutorial for it? I would like to watch it.
That depends on whether or not I decide it's worth $37 for the full version of Fraps. Possibly if I intend to do other video projects in the future.
Just record it in 30 second increments. Record, when it stops, record the next part. Then put it together with windows movie maker or something and put it on youtube.

Well, in minecraft we all know that **** is created by other **** by finding that **** and doing **** to it, you know what i mean?
There's a tutorial if you can't figure it out by the pictures :tongue.gif:
Close, except the middle layer shouldn't have the 3 blocks in the lower right hand corner, or there would be no way to get into the "machine."
Features/Purpose:
The water "seat" was added when I discovered that if you accidentally get too close to the flowing lava in the machine, you could catch yourself on fire. The seat has two purposes; pushing you back towards the corner away from the lava, and immediately extinguishing you if you are stupid enough to get close enough to catch fire.
The crafting bench on the corner was so that I could craft additional pickaxes without going downstairs to my workshop. In an SMP setting, I would likely also add a large chest for dropping off the stone, so that one of my buddies could come by to pick it up/drop off sticks when I'm running low.
The reason the lava source is on the top layer instead of the middle was so that I could easily remove it either by climbing on top of the machine via ladder or by standing on the workbench and jumping. This was very useful when making modifications/moving the machine, because it meant I did not have to "dig" into the lava source, potentially with messy (fiery?) results.

Take into account that the stone would be his "wall"
