I believe since Beta 1.3, Lava Buckets, when used as fuel, don't take your bucket. Minecraftwiki.net has yet to update that, it still says that using a Lava Bucket as fuel will destroy the bucket.
I don't have a Minecraftwiki account, nor do I desire to create one, or whatever is required to edit a page, just for that. I'm hoping someone who can change it, will possibly read this and change it.
But yeah... Good to know you can use lava as fuel without burning through buckets!

Yeah...sorry if the quality is bad..I had to scale it.

I don't think I can handle having such an inconclusive thread, I might have to try this myself if it keeps going.

Thats 2 who say they tried it and it DIDN'T eat their bucket, and 4 who said it did . . .
I will go try it myself, but I think we need more confirmation here.
EDIT: Just tried this, it immediately ate my bucket.
To those who have had it NOT eat their bucket, are you sure you aren't using any mods?

I remember my bucket being eaten awhile ago, but I expected it would come back after the little fire went all the way down, so people couldn't just take their bucket out halfway through and have practically infinite smelting power.
It'd be nice if it would take the lava out of the bucket, instead of making the bucket disappear as well.

I did try it, and it didn't work, but there are two people who claim that it did work, and a number who claim they "thought" it worked.
