Well I'm not exactly sure if this is the right spot, sorry if it isn't. But for some reason I keep getting an error malformed input around byte 5 or so, upon trying to connect to my own multiplayer server. Apparently this is from not having the same version of game and server. However, I haven't been able to find an update for the server or downgrade the game to a previous version. Are there any other fixes?

I have done that twice already. Nothing. It says that I have both beta server 1.3 and the game is at 1.3. I don't see what could be the problem

That seemed to take care of the immediate problem, however now I am having trouble connecting. It either says fail to connect or MC crashes completely. I will retry a new server and see if that works.

Edit: It just continues to do malformed input around byte X. And won't move on. I have re-downloaded both items multiple times. Any ideas now?

So you have the beta 1.3 client and server?

Are you running any mods? addons? Some more info may help.

What are the specs on the computer running the server? OS? RAM? CPU? Drive speed?
Are you playing on the same computer as you're running the server?
How are you connecting to the server? Internal IP? External IP? Hamachi?
Are you running any firewalls or anti-virus software?
Running any other applications while you're running the server/client, if they're on the same machine?
Which version of Java are you running?
Which version of the server software are you running? EXE or JAR?
Do you have a paid premium account?
Are your friends connecting from outside of your home network?
If so, have you set up port forwarding properly and disabled your router/modems firewall?
Do you receive any *other* errors in the console?

Yes I have 1.3 server and game.
I am not running any mods or addons.
I have Windows 7 Pro 32bit, 4GB of RAM, Dual Core 3GHz Processor.
Using hamachi to connect to the server
I have both Zone Alarm for firewall, and AVG for my anti-virus software running.
The only thing I'm running alongside the server and MC is hamachi.
Using Version 6 Update 24 of Java.
I am running the .EXE server file.
Yes I have a paid premium account.
The only other errors I receive are usually come after having tried to login and it failed, the game will say "Unable to login: Bad Login".

Quite sure that Zone Alarm is what is causing this. Try shutting it down and connect.

You were right! Thanks a bunch. However, now I have the shitty Microsoft Firewall enabled. What should I use instead?

Well. That's a difficult question. i think Zonealarm Pro has more options, and will let you setup program and port permissions properly. but dont take my word for it. Make sure it works before buying it (should be a trial on their site. not sure).

I've also had good experience with Eset. Alot of people recommend F-secure, but i dont like the fact that it adds an insane amount of running processes. I think trying out a couple of trials would be the best way to find out which one suits you best. My security knowledge is a bit rusty at the moment, the best firewall today, might be the worst tomorrow. :bookshelf:

Hmm now I seem to be getting a problem where the blocks are respawning after I destroy them. What's happening?

Are you standing in the spawn area?

you need to be OP to change stuff there. move away 20 blocks or so and try there

Ah that was probably it. I was able to knock down a tree just fine before it. Thanks a bunch
