Hello,
It just hit me today how AWESOME it would be to have stained glass in minecraft. It would be REALLY simple!

One of the following methods would work GREAT!

Method 1
:P  = Dye Color
:Glass:  = Glass
[]  = Air

To Craft:
[] :RFlower:
[]  :Glass:

Method 2
:RFlower:  = Dye Color
:Glass:  = Glass
:sand: = Sand
[]  = Air

First Craft:
[]  :RFlower:
[]  :sand:

Then Furnace the sand to make stained glass.
Stained Glass should have a damage value like wool for the ID

Here is an example of red tinted stained glass on a white background.

What is an Extended 2x2 Crafting Grid Thread?

(It's already been suggested by a much more notable forum user)

Yeah, just like the wool, except for glass.
This may be difficult because I don't think minecraft has alpha support.

I had this exact idea just a few secodns ago, but mine was a lil' different :P  When you break a piece of glass, it would drop a "Glass Shard," a bit like glowstones drop...  Well, glowstone dust :)  You could either combine 9 shards to remake one piece of glass, or you could put a glass shard in with a dye to dye that particular shard a colour :P  Then, depending how you rearange the glass shards in the 3x3 crafting grid depends on what the resulting piece of glass looks like :)

You could have a piece that looks like this, using 3 blue shards, 3 red shards and 3 green shards:
:Blue:  :Red:  :Diamond:
:Blue:  :Red:  :Diamond:
:Blue:  :Red:  :Diamond:
Or...
:Blue:  :Red:  :Diamond:
:Red:  :Green:  :Blue:
:Green:  :Blue:  :Red:

It would all depend on how you arrange the shards :P

You could just make a total mess, by combining lots of different colours!
:Red:  :Black:  :iapprove:
:Green:  :Rose:  :iapprove:
:iapprove:  :Red:  :Teal:

Doing this would mean people can make church-like windows and pixel art much easier :D  People could make depictions of the Lava God in a few simple glass blocks X3  What do you think of my method? :P
