Hey you guys.

PROTIP: When you try to be a pedant, and deride other people's spelling and grammar, the less informed of you frequently fail to distinguish the two:

Spelling is the order of the letters in a word. If an individual word as a unit has been incorrectly organised (for example, "example", spelt "exmaple" or "exampke"), that constitutes a spelling error.

Grammar is the organisation of the words in a sentence. "My horse to went market" is a grammatical error.

That is all.

Those of you who express yourselves pleasantly and are accepting of genuine mistakes made by others, I hope you realise that this isn't aimed at you. This is aimed at a small demographic within the forum who fall in both of the groups "Ignorant of the English Language" AND "Likes to mock people who they think are less intelligent than themselves"

Another SteGriff post. :P At least this one isn't a bullet hell of words.

I would also like to stress that, when deriding someone due to grammatical/spelling errors, it is poignant not to make the very same errors. Indeed, it is preferable that no errors of either sort are made at all.

I am always very sure to use flawless grammar when doing any nitpicking. To correct one person's error whilst making your own makes you both a target and a fool.

Of course, I reserve my nitpicks for those who make themselves targets either through abhorrent mistakes or derisive behavior. I also try not to sound derisive when performing such acts, merely swooping in to point out any mistakes made without further comment. My decidedly classy intent is not to insult you but rather to let you insult yourself.

Remember, folks: Stay classy.

No. That’s syntax, although admittedly both syntax and spelling are examples of grammar. For example, “all of these words is in the right order” is not an error of syntax, but is still quite clearly a grammatical error.

Spell check with some browsers (I.E. anything besides Internet Explorer) and combine with a bit of common sense.

That is all.

Syntax is an element of grammar, as you touched upon. My post describes the two in order to outline their differences, not as a definition.

Wow, who in the world didn't know that. Seriously, it's not hard to distinguish the the two.

Is this just you imagining you're clever?

Do not wallow do not stall
Time waits for none at all
Your allowance may crawl,
It may fly or even vanish
But none will seem more lavished
Than time lost to all.

Not an excuse to perform thread necromancy, Diamond.
