So for the last couple days I been playing multiplayer minecraft without any issues. I wake up today decided I wanted to play. I have like 9 servers on my multiplayer list and all of them either say pinging or can't connect to server. When I click one of those servers and try to join I get this message.
Failed to connect to the server
java.net.connectexception: connection timed out: no further information
I checked the windows firewall and added minecraft to the allow list but like I said I have been playing for a few days now.
Thanks
I should mention I been googling for 20 min and all the help I found was for personal servers and server setups.
I'm having the same issue too in 1.7 but its netty errors instead of java :/

Yea, I would like to add that I can sucessfully ping the servers and I am getting a reply back from them. I then shutdown all firewalls and still cant connect through minecraft. I also updated java and that didn't work either.
Same Here, I've been going on this hamachi server for the longest and its been working. but ever since 1.7 it broke Hope its get patched, can anyone find a fix?
If you are not already aware, the networking aspect of the game was completely re-written, which has changed a lot of aspects of Multiplayer and how the game itself makes connections with the internet.
It is most-likely that the server that you are trying to connect to either has not been updated to 1.7, and or the server is legitimately down due, possibly due to a firewall.

Just joined to say I am having this same issue. The server I connect to is running properly, others are on it, and this happened suddenly.
I'm interested to hear from others who had the same issue, and a possible resolution?
Getting the same type of error, me and my friend are trying to play with hamachi, we both have the new 1.7.2 update, and it wont let us connect. Plus all other multiplayer servers are either "Pinging" or just not connecting.
I also installed Minecraft on a different computer on a different network, using the same username, and had the same issue.
This leads me to believe it may be either something to do with my account, or something to do with the Java update I did. Anybody else update java and then have this issue?

The multiplayer is completely rewritten so please wait a little for the servers to be updated. It is not that easy on Bukkit servers especially because the Bukkit update for 1.7.2 is not out yet,and that is why OwnageBurst has the Hamachi problem,so until than he should play on 1.6.4.

Im getting this too, but in the server select screen a server can do one of two things, it would either say "Pinging..." forever or change to "Cant reach server"
I had this problem with Lan worlds. What I did was I went to the Control Panel then to Windows Firewall. In Firewall there is a button on the side called 'Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall.' I clicked that and when I went in there were three programs that weren't allowed through. They were all called Java(TM) Platform SE binary. I simply clicked the boxes next to them to allow them through and it worked!
