Epitaph: As of the twenty-first of October 2011, I have formally discontinued this texture and sound pack. What began as an exercise in pixel art and social acclimation has become a nuisance no longer worth pursuing, yielding little to no reward or recognition. As such, I no longer see any reason to bother myself with it, or this once-promising game, nor it's tiresome and predictable forums. Once again, I apologize for nothing, and as always, have no regrets. Adieu.

CAUTION: This modification makes items all weird and shit while keeping recipes the same (ie strings are now wax and three wads of wax with three sticks somehow makes a rifle. How you ask? ALCHEMY!) If you don't want to be confused then play without the .lang file a few times to get a good grip for it.

NOTE: As of September 8th, this texture pack requires you to patch minecraft in order to experience all features.
YOU ONLY NEED TO CHECK THE OPTION THAT SUPPORTS HIGHER RESOLUTION TEXTURE PACKS AND KEEP TO ALL ANIMATED TEXTURES TO "DEFAULT."

This modification is compatible with the Minecraft as of September 8th, 2:35 PM PST.

If you like this and would like to see it finished add this to your signature to spread my work.

DOWNLOAD TEXTURE PACK

HEY! THIS IS IMPORTANT!!

You can use 7zip to do the following and more.

Note1: In the Texture Pack there is a folder labeled "lang." Go into this folder and copy the file inside to the corresponding directory inside minecraft.jar. You must delete the META-INF folder in minecraft.jar for this to work. This adds a lot to the game atmosphere and is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Note2: Do not use the lang file the first time or you will become confused!

Note3: If you are going to spend time in the nether I strongly urge you to apply the soundpack before doing so! This adds a lot to the game atmosphere and is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

HEY! THIS IS IMPORTANT!!

Spiders can be made translucent in the dark and near-invisible in sunlight, to do this:
Step 1 Rename the original spider.png to spider2.png
Step 2 Rename the original blank.png to spider.png

When using the SoundPack it is recommended that you also do:
Step 3 Rename spider_eyes.png to spider_eyes2.png
Step 4 Rename spider2.png to spider_eyes.png

Some creatures have alternate textures in the pack. Be sure to pick your favorite.

Gloomcraft SoundPack
Clarification: I did not make any of the sounds in this soundpack, I lifted from them from this game.

DOWNLOAD SOUND PACK

To use this sound pack (or any for that matter):
Step 1
Open your START menu in Windows and click "Run...". - For XP
Open your START menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Run - For Vista
Enter the text in the code-box below and press OK.

 %appdata%/.minecraft

Step 2
In here you will find a folder called "resources," OPEN it.

Step 3
Minecraft is still using that silly sound update system that will try to replace any changed sounds with the default ones everytime you start it up. Go here to get a mod that stops minecraft from changing the sounds.
If the mod does not work,
you must apply the sounds the old fashioned way:
1. Start Minecraft
2. Log in if you are using the client
3. DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING YET

Step 4
Now, select all files in the Gloomcraft Soundpack and COPY them to "resources," when it asks you if you want to replace the files, select YES TO ALL.

Step 5
Start Minecraft, if clicking the the menu buttons gives you a different sound than normal then it worked!

IF YOU ARE NOT USING THE MOD TO PREVENT MINECRAFT FROM REPLACING THE SOUNDS:
After applying a soundpack and exiting, it is recommended
that you play a session without applying the soundpack.
Minecraft will redownload the default sounds and then you can
apply the custom ones next time. You will need to do this
 everytime you start the game.

FFFFFFF-

This looks awesome (and much scarier than the default). I especially approve of the flesh zombie; this game desperately needs a red-colored mob. Actually, I like all of the colors you chose for this set (maybe except for the Creeper, but that's only because I have a special place in my heart for the classic green kind; your version still looks great). The white/invisi-spider in particular is horrifying. xD Nicely done!

Oh, I like the Spider and Zombie. I'm already using some mob reskins, but I think I might be using some of those now.

Thanks!
The spider in particular got a lot of love due to being the only mob who's skin was tailor-made for him, rather than being based off a player skin.

The zombie in particular was inspired by silent hill.
I know what you mean about creepers, they're almost a mascot for the game.
Thank you for the positive feedback!

You should try your hand at making some non-hostile mob horror textures, considering I can't seem to find any good non-hostile mob skins, except the Chicken-To-Duck and Black Sheep.

I didn't reskin the passive mobs because I wasn't sure how to make them scary and generally they interest me much less than the hostile mobs.
But now that I think about it I do have some ideas on how to reskin them.
And yeah, there isn't really any decent reskins of cows and pigs and such.

Here is just a test skin I put on the pig to see how it looked.

A little basic. At least the head/face should have some features, and maybe some shading. But the general idea is good. Only thing is maybe you should see if you can put any organs or something in it, considering they drop meat. Or maybe you could just turn pigs into walking piles of animated meat, using bones for legs or something. Just my 2 cents though, do what you want.

EDIT: Here, this is what I'm talking about. I whipped this up using someone's horror-themed Creeper skin (I can't be assed to go to page whatever to look for it again).

Hanging Pork
Reanimated meat with a hook in it. It uses knives stuck in it's torso as limbs to drag it's body around.

How am I supposed compete with this?

It's an atrocity!
My pig looks downright adorable compared to that!

He isn't anywhere near finished though.
Also, I wasn't making a skeleton originally, it was just a test to see how the pig skin wraps on the model.

UPDATE:
Pig finished. Pics and skin in OP.

Me likey but don't forget that sheep drop wool so be sure to include some of that in the skin. They need to be at least a bit furry/wooly.

The idea is that the wool will look like a blood soaked tampon, and when it is punched off it will reveal the sheep's macabre underlying form. The picture was supposed to illustrate that.
I will also make a terrain edit to make the wool blocks red.

I'm still eager for your Cow design since that's the last thing I need modded. But I like the sheep idea.

The humble beginnings of sheep (just the skeleton so far.)

Posted Image

I'm trying to figure out how to best do the skull. Personally, I think the eyes ought to be on the sides.
Never mind, looks better with eyes at the front.
Actually, I'm really not sure...

The sheep is finished! Pictures and skin can be found in OP.

Next I will redo wool and then cows and chickens (in that order.)

These mobs are terrifying. Awesome job, they'd probably fit in with some realistic texture packs like a charm (I do not wish to find said packs).

Do you have plans for slimes, chickens, and cows?

Very true! I would personally recommend SMP's Realistic.

Yes, I will do cows and chickens next, concept art will be up by today or tomorrow! I can't do slimes at the moment because I can't find any :Skeleton: .

In other news my soundpack is finished (as much as it can be!) I will add a download and instructions in OP when I can.

If it helps, slimes grow skinnier and taller when they bounce and emit particles (and a squish noise) whenever they jump. The most generic approach would be a bundled up pile of meat with eyeballs popping out.
