Title says it all. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything. I tried doing it in the newest snapshot, kinda like you would make Stone Bricks from 4x Stone. Nothing worked, not even 9x ice.

Thanks for your thoughts and comments!

As of now, no. Maybe in the future.

I think the only way to get packed ice is from spawns in biomes, http://minecraft.gam....com/Packed_Ice

I read the thread title and the image of rural Italian winemaking popped into my head, except the barefooted women were stomping regular ice into "Packed" ice.

I think I need a bit more sleep.

Packed Ice is a new block in the upcoming "ice spikes biome" and it doesn't melt like regular ice does.

I guess the only way is to break it with a silk touch pickaxe.  Now you can build igloos in the nether!

As others have said, it's not craftable (yet). I think you should be able to get it without silk touch, since it doesn't even melt.
Insert clever signature here.

I don't think so, but it's a good idea. Throwing in a suggestion in the suggestion section for craftable packed ice from regular ice would get my support.
The Darkness will win one day, and light's time being the winner is nearing it's end. Because light is overrated.
People, the Modification Development section is for MODS, not Bukkit plugins. Do not be surpised if you don't get any help from there.
Spoiler: Random fact

For now it is one of the more seldom materials, just like mycelium and red sand. I wouldn't really mind if Mojang is going to made it craftable (or renewable), but I do also like it that there are some more materials in the game where you have to travel for (at least if you got not one of those lucky seeds with ice spikes near spawn). And the packed ice is a beautiful and solid building block to me.
