I need some help with a command where I try to spawn in a Oak Wood Slab in the top half of a block.
When ever i try to spawn one in, is it always placed in the bottom half of the block. I don't know what kind of tag i need to use to make it spawn in the top half.

Currently usung following command:

"/setblock x y z 44 2 replace"

Register or log in to remove.

You cannot use numerical ID's for the /setblock command. The command you'll want to use is:

/setblock x y z wooden_slab 8 replace

Numerical IDs works too, but strings are better.
@OP: Try damage value 10 (2+8). Bit 8 means top slab.
Never dig down. Especially not in Spleef.

True, true, but numerical ID's are going to be unsupported for 1.7 to get further along with mod API. It's better to avoid those ID's now.

And I have misread the OP concerning it being a 'top slab', and have fixed the damage value of the slab in my post.

Thanks for your help guys Posted Image

So this means that i have to remove the numerical ID from all of the command blocks and replace them with strings?

Currently making a auto-building house with the /setblock command. Would suck to have to replace all of the numerical IDs, cause i have placed 132 command blocks by hand. Posted Image

Speaking of strings, what are they for sign posts (block), locked chests, and cooked fish?

Yes, I've tried "sign", "floor_sign", "sign_post", "locked_chest", and "cooked_fish" already.

Somebody  REALLY needs to make a list of all these new block and item names. How are we supposed to look through that ginormous completely unorganized list every time we want to use a setblock command? Anyway one tip is to never capitalize any of them anywhere. Only gamerules have that. Also another annoying thing is that random names seem to have no underscores for spaces, such as note block is just noteblock, and dead bush is just deadbush. Same for stone bricks, tall grass, and trap door.

You're probably looking for trapped chest, not locked chest. If you actually want that easter egg joke block that doesn't work anymore, apparently it is named chest_locked_aprilfools_super_old_legacy_we_should_not_even_have_this. lol
Logic pattern: A=B. B=C. This means A=C
Example: I play minecraft. Minecraft is awesome. This means I am awesome!

Wow, that actually worked...

OK, what about cooked fish and sign posts?

Would /setblock ~0 ~0 ~0 minecraft:Iron_bars work for iron bars? I'm thinking yes. I need to test.

That's the "Damage/Data value". Each block has 16 possible values, starting at 0. They can represent different things; in this case, the type of wooden slab is stored in these data values. As another example, the direction a door is facing is what's stored in the data values. For comparators, it's both the direction and if subtraction mode is active or not. And for wool, it would be the color.
