I will attach a link to the website, after reading the fine rint they openly admit to trying to install a toolbar. They have a privacy policy that is a joke and make heavy use of minecraft characters and the minecraft logo.

They state that they will collect information such as name, phone number and email address. And that the toolbar also collects data. Which, in their own words, the use to "provide you with certain services or products of freegiez or any other third party, whether for commercial or other purposes."

In other words they are coning people into thinking that they are getting minecraft for free, according to the webste it is a demo. I do not wish to download it and test for malware as I already have 2 opperating systems on a fairly small hard drive and dont want to download a virtual machine. But they seem to be trying to d this in a semi-legal manner.

Here is the link:
Nope. Do not give them more traffic. It's just an advertisement for them.

This has been posted before, doubt they will fix it as other websites have similar scams.

So I've been researching the site Nope for a little while now. I've found that this advertisement surfaced a few weeks ago, in early August. Back then, the website URL was "freegies", not "freegiez" (with an "S"). Here is an image on Imgur that shows somebody going through this download process, already knowing that this will be some kind of virus or spyware:
Nope
Two days ago, Freegiez changed its name to have a "Z" and then started spamming the hell Google Ads, almost every web page I see now is this ad. The text at the bottom of the Freegiez Minecraft page is directly copy-and-pasted from Wikipedia's Minecraft article. Basically, what Freegies does is download the current Minecraft launcher, but you still have to have an account. Also, it adds one of those toolbars to you that may or may not try to be helpful, but usually is either useless or a spyware (probably spyware). Of course, that was Freegies (with an "s"), I don't know if anybody has fallen for this yet, but if they have, I would like to see with Freegiez does. Please report it here if you know what Freegies (with a Z) does.

Note: saying "fix this, Mojang" in the forums doesn't necessarily bring something to the attention of Mojang. Nor does it bring it to the attention of companies these scum are buying ads from, such as Google, who would quite possibly shut off their ads if they knew (they're pretty good about deceptive advertising). Mostly, it just makes it a topic of discussion in the forums, which only serves to warn a few people about it -- most of us have Minecraft already! You need to contact Mojang directly. With a larger company I'd say they'd probably already know about it, but Mojang has a fraction of the people of a single Wal-Mart (I asked at ours: they have about 200 people) so they might not have seen this. Mojang can then contact Google, etc., and have the standing to make a really valid complaint.

The important part, though, is that if you see something like this, you need to send an email to Mojang. They're the ones who can raise holy hell with the registrar and site host, get Google to drop their advertising, etc. Don't depend on someone from Mojang possibly seeing a comment on the forums when, with the same amount of time it takes to type something up here, you could send it to them directly.

How is this Mojang's problem to solve?  These sites only exist because there are too many stupid people that make it possible.  These sites die when people just don't visit them.

Ya know I thought about emailing them, but my experience with emailing a company is that I get an automated message and nothing happens. Usually you need to build hype for them to bother, but this is mojang, why the hell wouldn't I just email them, lol.

It's their problem to solve because it's their trademarks that are being trampled on, which gives them certain legal obligations if they want to maintain those trademarks. Plus, allowing this to continue is bad PR for their company, and most companies are concerned about their public image. Also, it's their customers who are being targeted, which gives them certain incentives to not have their customers (especially the younger of those customers -- remember, MC attracts a fair number of children )-- tricked.

Exactly. This is Mojang. All of 33 people or something like that. And this is something that directly affects their trademarks, their public image, and potentially their bottom line, so I'm sure they'll pay attention.

We can only hope they pay attention. Hopefully my plan to draw attention to it on the forums brings some mojang staff here to ensure this gets looked at. Rather than just make me look like kinda like an idjit for bringing it up here.

I thinked maybe it was a minecraft clone, so then I searched it up I found this. When I found this out I was very VERY Posted Image angry. I hope this is going to be fixed. Thanks for this information!Posted Image

Yep. I'll also put my hand up for thinking things were a little suspect with the mentioned site. I Googled and also found this thread.

I have made a report to Google specifically the Adsense team. Hopefully they can see this taken down.

Other than that, there isn't really much that can be done until Mojang want something done I guess.. Then again, that is also what it might take for Google to take down the ad.

Unfortunately, Google clearly don't take a good look into people advertising or what they are trying to advertise. I used to play plenty of Diablo III and my use of D3 forums etc saw my Adsense targets switch to Diablo based ads. 100% of these sites were for "D3 Gold" which is AGAINST Blizzards terms of service to sell gold outside of the Real Money Auction House. Yet the ads never seemed to be taken down, not that people complain about cheaper items, but STILL. It's the point of Google researching those wishing to advertise over just taking their money and waiting for reports.

Probably 99% of the ads people run with Google are legitimate. It's much more cost-effective for them to assume a proposed ad is one of those until proven otherwise (i.e., someone complains) then to incur the expense and, possibly more important, the delay, of researching an ad that no one has complained about
