I am trying to play SMP but I can't because I am stuck running 1.2. The game doesn't update when I log in, because  when the update came out I re-installed all my mods. Now I have uninstalled my mods but it still won't update. any help? All I need to do is update my game.

Open the "Run" dialog box and type "%appdata%" and you should see it.

Edit: This is assuming you mean you can't find the "%appdata%" junction.

Small clarification: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin\

Replace C:\ if you have a custom installation of Win7.
Replace with whatever you PC login name is, NOT your minecraft name.
The AppData folder is hidden by default. To view it, goto Tools > Folder Options > View (tab) > Check "Show hidden files and folders" > OK (button).
As my signature states, ONLY delete the \bin\ folder. If you delete anything else, you could loose your saves.

The launcher should download the current version files on restart. This should get you to 1.3.

But in all seriousness, you can either get the new browser off minecraft.net or delete the version file in the bin folder.

i have force uptade

force update doing:
1.replace new minecraft JAR
2.add normal files
(3. you cant have mods in minecraft Jar if you update,you must download mods again...)

I pressed this button that said force update and now every time i log on to minecraft it asks me if i want to update how do i get rid of that or does it say it because there is an update?

CAN SOME ONE PLZ HELP ME!!!!! when i tried to log into minecraft it would tell me that my log in failed,so i went to minecraft.net and logged in and changed my password to see if my login would work but it did not work it still tells me that i failed to login and when i am in offline mode it tells me that the update was 1.7.3 and not the 1.8.1 update it was supppose to be

I have a few questions too.

#1: Minecraft never connects and I practically always play offline, doing the following steps you stated will it update me from 1.2 or not?

#2: Does updating reset minecraft and removes EVERYTHING I built on it?

i tryed to use mcpatcher on minecraft 1.0.0 but it changed it back to 1.8 so i redownloaded minecraft and it was still 1.8 what do i do
