1. I'm looking for YouTubers that create item spotlights of items in both Vanilla Minecraft and for items added by mods. These spotlights should be short, sweet high quality videos that explain the most important things to know about that specific item/block. For an example video, please check out these very awesome videos. [], [] These videos would be linked to through WikiLink so depending on how many people use my mod, it could be a great source of views. If you are interested, please PM me!
2. I also need help improving my information base for WikiLink. I have spent a while scouring the internet for mod wikis, but perhaps there is one or two that I have missed. If you know of a mod that has a very decent wiki, please leave the name of it here and I will get it handled.
Have you ever been playing in a big modpack, or even vanilla Minecraft, and found yourself wondering what a specific item you have does? Or have you ever been playing in Minecraft and you wished for an easy solution to getting your questions answered? Well my friend, I have a solution for you.WikiLink is a utility used to open various information sources based on what you want to look up inside of Minecraft. If you are curious about the functions of redstone, all you have to do is use one of the various built in functions of WikiLink and you’ll get the information you need in seconds via your default web browser.
WikiLink has been tested and has been proven to work on all operating systems including Windows, Mac and Linux or Unix. Thank you to my valiant testers for helping me squash bugs and fix problems regarding operating systems and browser handling. If you are experiencing a bug however, please do not hesitate to post in this thread, send me an email, or even tweet me.
Usage
WikiLink is super easy to use, making getting information on mostly every item in the game a breeze. You can open the WikiLink menu GUI by pressing the default key - I - (Configured in NEI keybindings menu) while hovering over an item in your inventory or the NEI item panel. The WikiLink menu will display a series of information sources based on that particular item including Wikis, Google links and even YouTube videos. You can select any of the information sources by clicking on one of the brown boxes until it turns green. When selected, you can either open the link automatically in your default browser or you can copy the link directly to your clipboard so you may paste it in the chat or send it to a friend.
Installation is easy. Just install Forge and then put WikiLink into your /mods/ directory WikiLink can not and should not be installed on a server. Doing so will cause the earth to implode.

Vswe, Teaching me with his great summer courses! Thank you so much for doing all that you do.
ScottKillen, The plugin an ability for mod integration. Thanks for all of your help!
Wow nice. Reminds me of the guild wars system! An idea would be to host your own wiki and have players able to edit it. That way, you could have every minecraft concept in one place

It's a good thought, but imagine how hard that would be to maintain! The whole concept of the mod is to bring all of the wikis together so it is almost like one big information source. It's like my dad would always tell me: "Don't fix what ain't broke, son." If the mod has a wiki, it can be added to this through the API.
This looks incredible and would really be helpful in the ftb mod packs such as the Direwolf20 mod pack, though that is for 1.5. Which reminds me, you should ask Direwolf20 to review this, it would be a short review but it would get alot of people's attention who have been looking for an easy way to figure out Minecraft, both vanilla and modded.
Also, you might want give instructions on how to install this mod, and if Forge is required.

Thanks for the tips. I will be sure to add instructions. I keep forgetting that not everyone knows how to install Forge mods
And as for Direwolf20 and his spotlight, I'd prefer him to wait until I can get NEI integration. That will be what really makes this mod worth using.
I could also probably port my mod back to 1.5.2. I will work on that tomorrow.

Your welcome, I have no clue when it comes to installing mods. If it wasnt for FTB's launcher and their edit mod pack button, I would never be able to play with mods besides the ones that are in the mod packs lol. I would be playing with 1.6 mods right now since after watching DW20's instruction video on installing forge for 1.6 looks incredibly easy but after looking at the Top Comments it looks like people are having problems and Im worried I might ruin my Minecraft saves and or give me a headache lol. But anyway... Instructions always help
Oh and another tip, I see that you do mention mod packs such as FTB and Technic, so I would guess that you wouldnt be against the idea of your mod being provided in official mod packs, but just to avoid confusion you should probably state wether your mod can be distributed in mod packs and what kind of permissions people need and or if people should wait till the NEI intergration happens.
Thats enough tips from me for now I think, I dont even do modding as much as I would like to, all I do is play FTB so I really shouldnt be giving advice lol, but I hope it helps you with your brand new mod and how to manage this forum thread. I really do hope people give this mod alot of love.

Thanks lol. I keep forgetting all of these important things! My mod is open source and free to learn from, so of course it is welcomed in any mod pack willing to take it.
Nice well then this mod belongs in the Direwolf20 pack! Once it gets updated to 1.6 that is lol. If anything the Minecraft wiki search function your mod gives should be vanilla!
When you add the NEI intergration, how exactly will it work?
Oh and I just got an idea that could help your mod if its even possible. Of course you have the api that mod makers can use to include their mod's wiki in your mods search functionality which is probably the most open way of going about it, but what if a mod that someone is using doesn't have an official wiki or for one reason or another a mod author never puts plugs into your api? How about this:
>Resource packs<
You have the user created a txt file or some sort of file that specifies the name of the wiki (the wiki key) and the url for said wiki and then have the user place that file into the resource packs folder. A good example of how another mod makes use of resource packs is Computercraft. It allows users to share resourse packs with each other that contains Computercraft programs that they made themselves and as soon as Minecraft modded with Computercraft launches, you take a look at your Turtle's programs and you will see all the programs from the resourse packs that you added are all there! Its quite handy really.
And if your mod could do that one day it would be very helpful to alot of people. I dont how easy or hard doing something like what I described above would be or if it is even practicle for your mod but there is no need to rush. Take yoru time. You have created a nice little helpful mod and people will love it Im sure I know Im going to love it once I figure out how to install mods properly lol

As for NEI integration, it will work similar to the way you pick out a recipe for an item using the R key. When you're hovering over the item you want information and press the wiki key (undecided) it will check which mod the item came from, and if that mod has a wiki then it will open the wiki with the item already searched up. If it doesn't have a wiki, of course it will result to the default wiki.
And for wikis that are "unofficial" or not added by developers, I'm planning on having a more advanced system once I figure out GUI menus. If there are multiple wikis registered to one mod then you will be able to pick the one you would like to use in the menu. This will open up the ability for users to create their own addons and add them to their favorite mods. This will come after NEI integration, however.
Wow that was easier than I thought, looks like I had nothing to worry about. I just installed Forge! So now Im going to install this mod
Edit: Oh I see how it works, at first I was typing /wiki minecraft wiki putsearchtermhere and was confused as to why it was using the search term "Minecraft wiki putsearchtermhere," but now I see that its just "/wiki mcw putsearchtermhere" alot simpler than what I was doing lol.

Thanks. I also figured out a better way to get all of the registered wiki keys which will be in the next version.
Using /wiki keys will list the keys in a big list
Using /wiki help will give you step by step instructions on how to get to a wiki.
