This would be perfect for Minecraft. It's cute, it's blocky, and it's not that technologically advanced.
I made up two new blocks and a new sprite. One of the blocks is the Bell. The other is copper. The sprite is a copper bar. They took me a while. Here's the PNG files for both.
Terrain file (Or what it could be)
Item file (Or what it could be)
Now here's the item formula, or one that may be useful. It could be an upside-down bucket too, I don't know, it's not really up to me.
And finally, some screenshots of the bell itself. (I re-textured the sandstone for it, this is NOT a mod.. But that'd be kick ass.. Anyone? Anyone?)
Here's the copper ore
And the Bell itself (Sorry about it being night time)
Left click and hold while holding a pickaxe stone or better or it will break. The bell does not follow gravity. Copper needs harvested with stone or better, and is smelted just like iron. Maybe copper can be assembled into a block like Iron, Gold, etc. Anyway, right-click the Bell to ring it. It's audio range is the same as the jukebox.
Redstone can also activate it.
This idea would be kinda nice for churches, lunch bells, alarm systems, etc.
Tell me what you guys think.
(There's a poll so you can do that too)
I would prefer Gold, since that lacks a use, rather than adding a new ore to the game completely devoted to making bells.
That was my first choice (Hence the color of the bell).. But then I decided that would be far too rare.. Though if the chance of hitting gold were increased in a certain biome or something, I'd be totally down for it. The new ore was just kind of an idea feed off of the copper ore thread. Like another use for it. I still made it myself.. Pixel by pixel.. Which sucked. Greatly. Either way, I agree it should have been gold. =/
I don't know... If the bell had a sort of "swinging" animation, I might support it... But as-is, what you've got here is a yellow note-block with far fewer notes and instruments. I'd rather just expand the note-block's capabilities to include a bell ring when placed on a metal block.

Are you always so pessimistic?
Yes, yes I am. A pessimist is always either right, or pleasantly surprised.

Egads..this is World of Warcraft meets Battlefield 1942 in a dark alley with way too much to drink and no discarded mattress nearby.
I like the idea, but not the block. It should be more bell-shaped. You can do it with a combination of several joined blocks (similar to how things like fences and mods are constructed) and get a rough approximation.
It should sound if hit by a thrown object or arrow (this would give another creative use for dispensers).

Perhaps. I don't know how it would work, but Notch seems to have this programming thing down, so if he likes the idea, it takes off from there.

and the point of these bells ?
Aesthetics. Just like colored wool, birch and dark wood, biomes (as of now), bookshelves, sandstone, and brick. It would simply look nice is all. Not to mention serve and excellent purpose of alertness.

A Bell.

Agreed & agreed.
I support these!
I think we could all agree that having cowbells would make it even better :wink.gif:
It's... An option.
I just think the bell would make an excellent addition to the game. Both aesthetically and functionally.
