Hello fellow forum members  Posted Image

Have you ever had one of those moments when you're trying to get that one painting you're looking for, and you keep punching, and punching, and punching, and punching and then when you finally see it, you accidentally punch again, and then you were like 'FUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!'
I did, many times, and i'm sure you did as well.

Well, awesome people, today, i present to you the idea,
that will make your minecraft life easier forever; The GUI Painting Selector.

What is it, You ask?
Well, basically it's a little screen that pops up when you right-click a painting with your bare hands,
that allows you to select the painting you want from a list of all the paintings you have.
Here's a Photoshopped image to show you what i mean:

Posted Image

The yellow border around the painting indicates it is selected.
The images to the bottom left -and right are paintings as well, take a look at this thread to see what i mean.
As you can see this makes it way easier to get your painting than it is now.

Let me explain how to use it:
1. Right click placed painting
2. Scroll down and click on painting you want
3. ???
4. PROFIT!

This would make mods like More Paintings (especially the insane version) a lot easier to use as well.
Let me show you what i mean by 'insane':

Posted Image

See all those colored rectangles in the image? Those are all paintings.
Imagine having to click a few dozen times to get the painting that you want,
only to click too fast and having to start over.
A mod like this would fix such a thing Posted Image

Tell me; Want or Not want?
Modders, unite, and make this happen  Posted Image

UPDATE: Thanks to Techwiz242, whatthemall and Davidee, this is now a fully working mod!

Hmm. I could do this, and it would be a help to me learning GUIs, as i hate them. This would seem rather quite awesome. After I've debugged it.

Thanks =D
I have no idea how hard it will be (probably very) but thanks for trying :)
I look forward to any updates you have on the mod.
When you've got somewhat of a script together, can i 'beta' test it? :P
Oh, i do have to request something, could you make it compatible with both versions of More Paintings and vanilla minecraft?

This certainly gets my vote, mate!  :grass:  :stone:  :stone:  :SSSS:

Punch-a-pic is great, but selecting a pic should be a little more sophisticated than punching it back and forth.  :stone: However, Punch-a-pic is still light years ahead of Notch's system and I am forever grateful to Woot for continuing to update it.

be aware there is a gui selector kind of mod in the 'bukkit' server system you might want to take a look at, but I'm fairly sure, the last time I looked at it, it wasn't compatible with the 'Xtreme' or 'Insane' MorePaintings mods.

I just wish Notch would look at the whole issue of paintings, as I'd love to see it become possible to place paintings on floors and ceilings. I can't see that it would be any more difficult to do this than hanging them on walls. The potential for myriad ceiling and floor designs would be a breath of fresh air. As you can probably imagine I like paintings to be utilitarian not just decorative. Here's the one I made for my texture pack:

Best wishes for the success of your request/idea. :Notch:

This, and the ability to place them on the floor to stand them up as though there were a block behind them. It'd make better use of that curtains one, too.

Exactly! Couldn't agree more.  :SSSS:

I am a complete novice when it comes to coding, but to have the code changed a little to allow paintings to free-stand or occupy any surface, would extend the range of visual possibilities in Minecraft to the nth degree. Having a proper gui for this would be a necessity too. :Spider:

Thanks for your replies guys, i appreciate the feedback :cobblestone:
And i too would like to see paintings on floors and stuff, but i'd like that to be part of More Paintings or a seperate mod rather than this mod. Official implementation (by notch) would of course be even better :cobblestone:
