Hi all! I'm TheFrunj, and though I probably watch Minecraft LPs more than I play the game, I still very much enjoy the Vanilla experience.
I've always been bugged by some of the sounds, and in the past have replaced the ones I don't like with empty .ogg files. These 0kb files appear to now cause issues in newer versions of Minecraft, at least from what I've experienced
So with the release of Resource Packs in Minecraft 1.6, I took a little time and threw together my own pack to make the game suit my desires - and potentially yours too!
I have not modified all files, and hostile mob sounds are left as is so they can be heard and dealt with. I think this pack would be useful for those wanting a little less audio inconsistency but who still want to preserve the feel of Minecraft - eg Lets Players.

Convenient and easy Installation for Minecraft 1.6 and up
Open Minecraft install directory (usually in %appdata% on Windows) and open the "resourcepacks" folder
Download Minecraft_Minus.zip and save to this folder
Extract the .zip into the folder, so the path looks like ".minecraft\resourcepacks\Minecraft Minus"
Open Minecraft and select the resource pack from the options menu
Manual Installation for Minecraft 1.4-1.5
Open Minecraft install directory (usually in %appdata% on Windows) and open the "resources" folder
Download Minecraft_Minus.zip and save to this folder
Extract the .zip into the folder, so the path looks like ".minecraft\resources\Minecraft Minus"
Manually copy the new versions of the sounds to the appropriate places in the file structure - you will have to search this yourself and re-do it if you download the old sound files again.
Can I use Minus with a texture pack?
Yes, of course!
To merge Minus with a texture pack of your choice, simply copy the folders located at .minecraft\resourcepacks\Minecraft Minus\assets\minecraft\sound and paste them into the resource pack you downloaded.
This will only work on texture/resource packs that have not changed the sound files.

Please try it out and let me know what you think
I used the open-source audio editor Audacity to reduce the gain on the sound files.
